The action was still going strong at the tables Tuesday, and this time it wasn’t all about martonas this time. Not that he wasn’t in the action, but his fluctuations was significantly smaller than the previous day. This day it was POKERBLUFFS who had the best results, taking a little something from almost everyone who sat down with him on this day.
Ziigmund moves in over POKERBLUFFS only to be called and find himself dominated. $171K pot
Even though POKERBLUFFS won the most money, it was quite interesting to see that he was not on the winning end of any of any of the 16 largest pots, even though he was playing exclusively $500/$1000 NLHE. The hand above was his largest win of the day, and it is also an instructive one.
Playing four handed, POKERBLUFFS made a small raise as he likes to do with many hands. After Antonius calls on the button, Ziigmund makes the 3-bet with his strong hand. It is after POKERBLUFFS’ 4-bet that things get really interesting. Ziigmund’s AQ is a really powerful hand with only four players at the table, but it is clear that it can be vulnerable facing a 4-bet. On the other hand, Ziigmund made his 3-bet in a position where many players will make a squeeze-raise on a bluff. And knowing that POKERBLUFFS also knows this, Ziigmund must take into account that his opponents had made a 4-bet on complete air. Seeing how POKERBLUFF is more or less pot committed, Ziigmund must have thought that it was quite likely that he was up against a bluff, but, as you can see. This time it wasn’t so.
Patrik Antonius makes an amazing call on the river to take a $496K pot from kingsofcards
The largest hand of the day was also, by far, the most interesting, and shows Antonius’ great instincts at the poker table. How is it possible to make a call like that in this spot, you might ask, and I think the key to the hand lies on in the play on the turn and that kingsofcards was trying to give the impression that the jack on the river helped him.
The trouble with this bluff, however, is that it wasn’t very believable. If kingsofcards has a jack in this spot, he would probably move all in on the turn over Antonius’ check raise. The reason for this, is that he would almost get almost 4-1 on a call on the river, something that would have been almost impossible to resisit. Therefore, ha might as well move in with a jack on the turn, in order to get Antonius to pay the maximum amount in case he was making a semi bluff on the turn. Putting your opponent on a bluff and actually calling over $100K with King high, however, is two entirely different things. Antonius deserves all the credit in the world for this play.
