Brian Townsend gets durrrr’s scalp

Brian Townsend put in a few hours of work over the last few days, and took down all those who tried their luck against him. This time, Durrrr was the largest donator, but also Ziigmund and OnTheRize left his table wishing they hadn’t sat down there in the first place.

Townsend is ahead with top and bottom pair on the flop, and dodges a lot of bullets to take the $85K pot.

It would seem that Townsends PLO game is not about making good laydowns, something that he clearly shows in this hand. When Ziigmund bets out on the flop, he felt that his two pairs were good and decided to go with his hunch and make the big raise.

I am not sureI like the play he’s making here. Anyone who has paid any attention to the PLO games lately, know that once someone has put money in on the flop, they are not very likely to fold their hand. This means that he will have very little fold equity, and he is very unlikely to be a favourite in any showdown. In fact, even if he actually was ahead on the flop, he only had 42% EV before the last two cards were dealt. Imagine then, if Townsend had been trailing on the flop. He would have had very few winners. The main problem is that he has absolutely no draws that could bail him out should his read be proven wrong.

Durrrr tries to bluff both the turn and the river, but Townsend picks him off to take a $84K pot.

Of course, Brian Townsend is no slouch at this game, and at this hand I like the way he played. I am, however, not be too impressed with durrrr’s play here. Ok, he takes a shot on the turn, but having been called there, I wonder which hand durrrr was hoping that Townsend was holding here. If he had only a flush draw, I think it is very likely that Townsend would have made a continuation bet on the flop. As it was, it looked like Townsend took the opportunity to take off a free card, and if this is the correct read, the turn is very likely to have hit him.

Durrrr flops a full house and gets Townsend to pay him off. $144K pot.

It wasn’t all bad news for durrrr in his session against Townsend, and on this, the larest pot of the day, he managed to use Townsend’s unwillingness to lay down a hand to his advantage. Since Townsend had been 4-betting before the flop, it was likely that he had either connected to the flop in the form of a flush or a wrap draw, or had an overpair to the flop . And as we saw from the first hand, Townsend likes his overpairs, so when durrrr bet out Townsend took the bait and stuck his chips in the middle.

I have to defend Townsend play a little bit on thi hand, though. As opposed to the first hand, he has the Aces and not the Jacks, and if Durrrr doesn’t have an 8 in his hand, the Aces are pretty stong in this spot since two pairs can’t beat them. This time, though, the Aces was really drawing thin.

On a side note, I want to tell everyone that I am noticing that some user’s don’t think that I have little clue what I am talking about when I make my analysis in these reports. I rarely see anyone making any good arguments for why it is so, but I will give you a chance to show me up.

I am putting on five bounty tournaments for the HighstakesDB users at BETnGO.com (iPoker) the next five Thursday’s (starting October 15th) at 1900 Central European Time. The buy in will be $10 + $1, and the player who knocks me out will receive $100. There will also be $100 added to the prize pool, so there should be some value here for everyone. Of course, I will probably be the best player there, so most likely no one will get the bounty, and I will take the added money as well. But, you are welcome to try....

There will be both an instant deposit bonus and a signup bonus for everyone who wants to take part. You can read more about it here.
