Antonius has a big PLO session

Fresh off his nice win against durrrr, Patrik Antonius had a great PLO session yesterday. In only 237 hands of $300/$600 and $500/$1000 he won almost $538K against OMGClayAiken and Ziigmund. The latter suffered the heaviest of the losses, dropping $468K in a short time.

Antonius flops top two pairs against Ziigmund top pair and draws and manages to hold on to take a $277K pot.

There were five pots exceeding $150K and all of them were won by Antonius, something that was obviously a contributing factor in his huge session. Most of the pots could have gone either way, so it is no stretch to say he was running good.

The pot above is a good example, but it also contains an interesting point in the play. With top two pairs on the flop, we are very often witnessing that the players can’t wait to get all their chips in the middle. On this hand, however, Antonius decided just to flat call Ziigmund’s continuation. There can be several reasons for this. Maybe he just wanted to vary his play a little, but I think the main reason was that the stacks were so deep that he wanted to see which card came on the turn before he committed himself to hand.

The turn looked like a blank, so when Ziigmund bet out, Antonius found that it was time to move in, and, as it turned out, his read was correct. He ‘only’ had to fade 15 outs to take the pot, and the club of 2 must have been a nice sight on the river.

Here are the remaining four of the largest pots from yesterday:

Ziigmund hits two pairs on the turn but Antonius has him beat and the river is no help. @251K pot.

Antonius top two pairs hold up against Ziigmund’s flush draw to take a $200K pot.

OMGClayAiken flops middle set, but gets rivered by Antonius’ flush draw. $162K pot.

Antonius hits trips on the flop and dodges Ziigmund’s flush draw to win a $153K pot.

Zugwat hits a flush on the river and DjAdi pays him off in full on the river.

There was also an interesting heads-up match going on at the $100/$200 NLHE tables, and though the stakes were smaller, DjAdi managed to win almost $217K or well over 1 000 big blinds. In this hand, though, he was on the losing end, but I think it would be interesting to see what you guys think he held to both make a check-raise and a call of the all-in push on the river. My best guess would be a jack-something, but a smaller flush is also an option, of course.
