After a long break, the action finally got back on track yesterday as durrrr and Patrik Antonius played almost 2 000 hands over a seven hour session. When the dust had settled, durrrr was up $225K and with that was able to extend his lead in this match to $937K after 29 764 hands.

As you can see from the graph, this was a real zee-zaw battle where Antonius actually held the upper hand for the better part of the session. However, he was unable to withstand durrrr’s final push. After 1230 hands, Antonius was up $225K, but from there on in most of the breaks went durrrr’s way.
Antonius flops top two pairs, but durrrr rivers a straight to win a $239K pot.
On this hand Antonius got quite unlucky, and since he would have won this session if the river card hadn’t given durrrr a straight, this hand is a good illustration of how small the margins really are here. On this particular hand, Antonius was about a 7-3 favorite both pre-flop and on the flop, but that didn’t help him a lot in the end.
It is hard to blame durrrr for getting into this situation, though. His hand is normally very strong, so he can easily argue that his 4-bet before the flop is the right move. Antonius’ 5-bet was a bit atypical for his hand, since we mostly see this play being made with aces or kings. But he certainly picked the right spot for deviating from this pattern on this hand.
When the flop came, there was no way that durrrr was getting away from his draw. Granted, had he been shown Antonius hand, he would seen that he did not have the correct odds to play this hand all-in. But since there was a pretty good chance that Antonius held aces, there was no way out for durrrr. Against such a hand, he would actually been a marginal favorite to win the pot. As it was, he needed some help to take it down, and the nine on the river was just what the doctor ordered
Durrrr’s top two pairs are counterfeited on the turn and Antonius wins a $228K pot.
On this hand, it is Antonius who gets lucky on the turn, but it is the way that durrrr plays the hand that is interesting. I must admit that I am a bit puzzled that he didn’t make a move on the flop in this situation, and even more surprised that he made a move on the turn. Surely he realized that there was a good chance that his hand was counterfeited. And there is virtually no chance that Antonius will fold since he is getting 6-1 on the call. At the same time there is little chance that durrrr’s hand is good. When the chips went in the middle, Antonius was a 4-1 favorite and it really shouldn’t have been a surprise at all for durrrr. I guess it only shows that these guys are human as the rest of us.
