After being down close to $7M for 2009 in the beginning of December, durrrr has had a great finish to the year. After winning over one million dollar the last couple of days, he has won about $2.7M since December 2nd. And while the total result for the year will not be very good, he is surely feeling a lot better about his situation now than he did four weeks ago.
These last winnings came from a number of contributors. Ziigmund was the main donator, dropping $541K in just 112 hands of $500/$1000 PLO. Brian Townsend also chipped in, and in a 125 hand long $300/$600 PLO session, durrrr won $182K. In addition to this, there were a number of other opponents playing varying stakes of PLO and the mixed games.
Brian Townsend was at the wrong end of the leader board this time, and in addition to the loss against durrrr, he lost $214K to trex313, $230K to rospodin and $128K to Ziigmund among others.
Durrrr hits top set against Ziigmund’s middle set to win a $247K pot.
Running good is obviously part of any major upswing, and this hand certainly helped durrrr’s cause. Hitting set over set when playing head’s up will stack your opponent the majority of the time, and on this hand Ziigmund had little chance of getting away. Both players rightly played their hands aggressively, fearing the potential straight and flush draws that was on the flop. When the cards were flipped over, Ziigmund received the bad news, and he had to rely on the back door draws he had, and though the turn gave him some hope, there was no help coming in the end.
Trex313 turns three of a kind to take down Brian Townsends aces. $223K pot.
Trex313 did also have some nice sessions, winning $185K in 904 hands. The hand above, which was the largest of the period in terms of the number of big blinds that went into the pot, was a major contributor to this nice result. On the flop, he was in a pretty bad spot when he called Townsends continuation bet. He is calling with the hop of hitting two pairs, probably putting Townsend on a big pair in this spot. However, since a ten will give Townsend a straight, trex313 does not have as many winners as he was hoping for.
The six on the turn was clearly a gin card tor trex313. It is not so easy for Townsend to see that this card helped his opponent, and by the time trex313 moves in it is difficult for Townsend to get away. If he could see trex313’s hand, he would have folded since he is a 6-1 underdog. He probably felt, however, that there was a decent chance that he was facing a bluff. It is difficult to put your opponent one specific card in such a situation, so it is understandable that Townsend opted to go with his hand.
