It hasn’t been the most action packed weekend on record, but a few players have taken the opportunity to add to their bankrolls. Cole South was the most successful of these, winning $275K, but a few others managed six figure wins as well. In the other end of the leader board, the two friends Phil Galfond and durrrr probably wished they went out partying instead of playing poker.
Cole South turns two pair and rivers a full house to sin a $197K pot.
Cole South’s largest pot this weekend came in the seven game against durrrr. On the flop, durrrr was a 3-1 favorite, and in hindsight he probably wished that he had made his move on the flop. Cole South would surely have dropped out at that point. However, in light of South’s 3 bet before the flop it is generally not a good play to make a raise on this flop with what is really just a simple straight draw.
When the club falls on the turn, durrrr felt the time was right to put his chips in. And it is easy to agree with this line. He is likely to get sufficient pot odds even if he gets called, and there is always the small chance that Cole South can’t call the raise. This time, I am sure that Cole South didn’t like the situation, but with bottom two pairs and an flush draw there is no way he can fold when he is getting 5-1 on his call. When the cards were turned over, Cole South was an 11-9 favorite, and as you can see, his hand held up in the end.
Brian Townsend flops the nut straight and durrrr pays him off. $200K pot
Sometimes you hit your hand only to end up a few seconds later, wishing you hadn’t. On this hand, durrrr decided to not make a continuation bet, but didn’t want to give up on the hand either. He probably decided to keep the pot as small as possible and not let Townsend make a big semi-bluff on the flop.
When the ten cam on the turn, giving durrrr top two pairs, it was difficult for durrrr to get away from his hand. Being out of position, he bet out, and with the pot laying him 5-1 on a call, he was pot-committed. And when no boat appeared on the river, Townsend could rake a cool $200K.
