There is 2 x Brian bookending the leader board so far this weekend. Townsend is on the top with his $189K win, while Hastings has the ill fortune of bringing up the rear with a $222K loss. In between these two, we find a lot of familiar names, but the action is still a bit subdued.
Brian Townsend turns a flush to crack Slick Puppy’s aces. $91K pot
This was Townsend’s largest pot of the session, and it came in the PLO part of the seven game. The play of the hand does not really warrant many comments. Slick Puppy 3 bet before the flop with his aces like you would expect, and the stack sizes were perfect for Townsend to check raise the flop with his top pair and flush draw. Obviously, his opponent will call most of the time here, but some fold equity is clearly better than no fold equity.
When the cards were turned over, you can see that Townsend is a little better than a 3-2 favorite to win the pot. The eight of hearts gave him the lead in the hand, though Slick Puppy had four outs to make a full house. Alas, this time it wasn’t meant to be, and Townsend was awarded the pot.
Ziigmund wins a race against Brian Hastings for a $109K pot.
Ziigmund also had a short session and managed, by his standards, a small win. He ended up winning the largest pot of the day, something that was critical for him in avoiding the red figures for the day. In a way, this hand is a bit similar to the previous one. The player with the draw (Ziigmund) goes for the check raise on the flop with the hope that he can take down the pot there and then. The difference this time is that the drawing hand was not a favorite one the flop. Hastings was an 11-9 favorite with his two pairs, but after dodging the turn, ha had to accept defeat when the diamond fell on the river.
