After seeing durrrr, Ziigmund & co putting together million dollar days, a win of $187K will probably not stir a lot of commotion among our readers. But considering that Vilmunen ‘only’ played various games of $100/$200 to get his result, the amount he won was significant. Another interesting fact is that the majority of his winnings ($115K) came in 488 hands of PLO $100/$200 Cap. In that game you can win a maximum of $8K from an opponent in a hand, so winning $115K in a relatively small number of hands certainly requires running incredibly hot.
Since most of Vilmunens winnings came in the cap games, I will not how any of those hands here. I don’t think those games are very interesting to analyze, and since there were other, more interesting hands being played yesterday, we’ll have a look at those instead.
Thecranium flps the nut straight and gets Townsend to pay him off. $90K pot.
Nothing magical about this hand, but still quite interesting to cinsider the action on the flop and the turn. Since so much money went in before the flop, the player won’t need much of an excuse to get their money in, but since Townsend checked his bottom two pairs I would assume that he at least would consider folding the hand if thecranium had moved in on the flop. The board seems to be right in the wheelhouse of a player who has 4-bet preflop so bottom two pairs doesn’t figure to be all that strong.
When Townsend hit his third pair on the turn, he has to consider why thecranium didn’t move in on the flop. As usual, the two main alternatives is that he missed the flop or that he is slowplaying a big hand. If thecranium has checked behind with a naked pair of aces, Townsend would be in good shape and should bet out to protect his hand, but if Townsend is up against a made hand, he might be drawing completely dead. Townsend has to try find out how likely each scenario is and calculate his equity against this range, and apparently on this hand he felt his chances were good enough to warrant a turn bet. This time it didn’t work out, but it seems as though it was a logical play.
Townsend turns the nut straight to scoop an $82K pot.
Antonius is a favorite on the flop but thecranium’s two pairs hold up to win a $62K pot.
NEKOTYAN flops the second nut straight, but is drawing dead against MicahJ’s nut flush. $50K pot
NEKOTYAN rivers a straight and wins a $49K pot.
