Ziigmund wins $194K from Cole South

Ziigmund hasn’t been very active at the high stakes tables lately, but yesterday he was back and played an interesting 539 hand match of $200/$400 against Cole South. And, as it turned out, putting in the time was really worth his while, because $194K is a great result considering the stakes they were playing. But it was his fellow Finn, Patrik Antonius, who won the most money on this day. Playing exclusively in the seven game, he managed to net an impressive $300K, so it seems as though April is still going well for him.

Cole South flops a set and gets paid off by Ziigmund. $228K pot

Even though he lost about 1bb/hand in his match against Ziigmund, Cole South managed to win the largest pot of the day. We can’t see Ziigmunds hand here, so there will be no deep analysis, but we can try to guess what he’s holding. My best guess would be that he turned a flush draw and holds a queen in his hand, possibly with another pair on the side. That would mean that the Queen on the turn gave him just enough incentive to call. After all, he is getting 6-1 odds, so he doesn’t need much to justify calling in this spot.

Ziigmund gets the chips in as a 2-1 dog, but wins both ends of a run it twice. $168K total.

We all know that is sucks to get your money in as the favorite and your opponent draws out on you. Having your opponent suck out on you twice on the same hand must really feel like you have been snakebit.

Ziigmund was clearly not confident about his situation here, because he didn’t try to make any moves on neither the turn nor the river. He probably would have preferred to keep the pot size small, but also felt that he had the sufficient odds to call both streets. Had the turn been a diamond, he would probably have folded the hand, and the potential flush draw was probably the reason why he didn’t try to check raise the flop. Anyway, against South’s hand, Ziigmund did have enough pot odds to stay in the hunt, so it wasn’t like he found himself in a tight spot because he played bad. It was just one of those hands, and as long as you have some equity, the chips will be pushed your way some of the time.

Gus Hansen flops trips against South’s top pair. $153K pot.

Zigmund flops the nut flush and South the second nut flush. $147K pot.

Antonius gets really lucky on the river. $139K pot.
