When most, if not all, of his normal challengers are in Vegas, jungleman12 must feel as though he has been exiled to the wilderness for the duration of the WSOP. Even so, he is able to find the occasional opponent, and yesterday it was odonkor1 who stepped up to the plate. The game was $100/$200 NLHE, and in a match that lasted just over 1000 hands, jungleman12 stood victorious with just under $100K of what was previously his opponents money.

Another installment in our ‘guess the losing holecards’ series, and this time I think it is very difficult to guess what cards odonkor1 held which made him call jungleman12 all the way. Obviously he was calling with the best hand on the first three streets, but it must have been a fairly decent holding since he was willing to call the big bet on the river as well even though the potential flush got there.
From jungleman12’s point of view, once he had opted to 3-bet his hand preflop, there was no point in stopping the betting at any time with his big draw. He could possibly have gone for a check raise at some point, but he was always going to lose a bunch if his draw didn’t get there. I am pretty sure he would have shoved the river regardless what card fell, but it is of course more comfortable to do so with a made hand.
Odonkor1’s top pair is no match for jungleman12’s aces. $50K pot.
Aces are a precious commodity in hold’em, so it is important to get good value from the few times you are lucky enough to hold them. In this hand, jungleman12 is really doing anything he can to keep his opponent in the pot, obviously with some risks to his own safety. The small 4-bet preflop probably shows a big hand nine times out of ten when an average player makes it, but I assume that jungleman12 makes this play with quite a few other hands as well.
Once the flop comes he tries to induce a bluff from odonkor1 by not making a continuation bet, although on this hand, the result would probably have been the same had he made the bet. Odonkor1 with his top pair/good kicker would have check-raised, and from then on it would have been no turning back. The way jungleman12 plays this time, however might get odonkor1 to part with a lot of money even with marginal holdings, so it is worth a try from time to time.
