Isildur1 makes a big splash, but ends up losing $196K

I would never claim to be clairvoyant, but we did mention in our previous report that Isildur1 had been spotted at the tables again, and that it might be a sign of some heavy action in the future. And sure enough, only a few hours later he sits down and takes on Observer84 in a $100/$200 NLHE game in what was the start of a 3661 hand day for the Swede.

For Isildur1’s many fans around the internet, the day could hardly have started better. He virtually ran over Observer84 winning over $175K, or close to nine buy-ins in a little more than 1000 hands and just under two hours of play. Next up was Ziigmund, and they played both $100/$200 and $200/$400 PLO. And as always when these players meet, there was a lot of action. Isildur1 came out of the gates very strongly and at one point had won about $275K from Ziigmund and over $450K in total. From then on, however, things took a turn for the worse as you can see from the graph.

At the end of this session, Isildur1 was back to about even for the day and took a short break, but not long after he played just over 300 hands of $100/$200 PLO with Cole South. Unfortunately for Isildur1, he was not able to turn the tide and called it quits after dropping another $147K. Add to that a couple of shorter sessions against other players, and you have the final result which was about a $200K loss. A lot more action than we have been seeing lately, and it will be interesting to see if Isildur1 is discouraged by this result or if he will be back shortly playing his usual marathon sessions.

Isildur1 hits a runner runner flush to win a $148K pot from Ziigmund.

Sometimes you just need to get lucky in order to win a specific pot, and Isildur1 certainly did that on this hand. As I have mentioned many times in previous reports, needing to get lucky doesn’t necessarily mean that you played bad to find yourself in such a predicament. The only time in this hand where Isildur1 really had a decision to make was when he was check raised on the flop. He could, of course, decide to fold there, but considering the draws that are on the board, his hand could be best in this spot. If you consider in addition that if Ziigmund holds two pairs here, Isildur1 will be in a really good situation if he should turn a better two pairs. In all, it is difficult to criticize Isildur1’s decision to continue with the hand.

Once the nine of diamond falls on the turn, the players are destined to get all their money into the pot. Ziigmund has a clear cut bet with his set, while Isildur1 with top two pairs and a flush draw has to like his chances of winning the hand. As it turns out, he is almost a 3-1 underdog to hit one of his winners on the river, but he could easily be a big favorite. As we have seen time and again, in these situations the players are left to see what  fate has in store for them, and on this hand fate was smiling at Isildur1.

Ziigmund turns a straight and rivers a flush to win a $140K pot.

Ziigmund returns the favor of winning a pot with a runner runner straight, but with a straight on the turn, that flush was somewhat of overkill. The only thing that was a bit surprising with the play on this hand was that Isildur1 did not shove the flop, but I guess at that time he was pot committed anyway so if the money went in there or on the turn hardly made any difference at all.

On the flop, Isildur1 was a slight favorite to win the hand (about 11-9), but the Ace of hearts on the turn changed all of that, dropping his equity to only 13%. This time there was no lucky river for him, so Ziigmund got his revenge and cold stack up a tidy $140K for his efforts.

Valuebet or bluff? Isildur1 makes some kind of failed hero-call and Ziigmund wins a $134K pot.

Not all of Ziigmund’s thin river bets work out. Isildur1 rivers a straight to win a $120K pot.

Ziigmund flops top set to win a $115K pot.
