Vaga_Lion wins over $120K from Ziigmund

Sporadic action at the tables over the last couple of days, but there was at least one player who managed to secure himself a six-figure win, and that in only 167 hands of play. In actuality it was only in the 48 hands of $300/600 PLO that Vaga_Lion (aka Rob Akery) played against Ziigmund that the former made his move which included the three largest pots of the period.

Vaga_Lion flops a set and gets Ziigmund to pay him off all the way. $111K pot.

When you decide whether or not to slowplay a big hand, the aggressiveness of your opponent is one of the key factors that go into this decision. I am not implying that Ziigmund is a player who is easy to trap, but he is certainly aggressive enough to fit the bill. On this hand there is little doubt that Vega_Lion made the right play, because he would certainly not get any more money out of Ziigmund if he had raised the continuation bet on the flop.

When the nine comes on the turn it is natural for Ziigmund to take another shot at the pot. The board is still fairly dry, and Vaga_Lion could have been floating with a lot of different hands. Besides, if he can’t get his opponent to fold, Ziigmund will have up to 13 straight winners to fall back on. This time he was a bit unlucky to find Vaga_Lion with both a set and a flush draw, so in the end he was a 3-1 underdog when the cash went in. And to add insult to injury, he had to see his hand improve on both rivers when they were running it twice without that saving him any money.

Vaga_Lion flops the nut straight and fades Ziigmund’s draws twice for a $100K pot.

This is a bit of a cooler for Ziigmund since he hits the flop pretty hard considering the hand is being played heads up. Again he is a 3-1 underdog, and yet again the run it twice functionality fails to save him any money. Obviously not the luckiest of days for Ziigmund.

Vaga_Lion flops trips and gets paid off on more time. $59K pot.

So Ziigmund ended the period at the bottom of the leader board, but it was also interesting to see that ginette22 joined him down there. As I stated in my last report  I was not all that impressed by his play, and I think that he will find many willing opponents when he sits down at the tables from now on.
