Patrik Antonius has been away from the action for a while, but yesterday he decided to step back in the ring and shake off the rust in the seven game. And while he was holding his own in the limit games, he was not as lucky when playing NLHE and PLO and ended the day with a $225K loss over 705 hands. Probably not the result that he wanted, but knowing Antonius he will soon be back to recuperate those losses.
NEKOTYAN flops top set and fades first one then two of Antonius’ flush draws. $51K pot.
These are the kind of coolers you are sucked into when you are running badly. Antonius, with his two pairs and flush draw does not have any choice but to stick his money in after the flop. And even against the top set, he is not in such a bad shape since he is blocking some of his opponents re-draws. On the flop, NEKOTYAN is a little less than a 2-1 favorite, and when Antonius picks up the second flush draw on the turn the odds are reduced to 3-2 in the Russians favor. But as you can see from the leaderboard, lady luck was not on Antonius’ side on this day, so NEKOTYAN could add a nice pot to his stack and wich contributed to him being the only player with a six figure win yesterday.
UarePileous flops a full house and gets paid off by Antonius’ overpair. $54K pot.
Antonius’ also found himself on the losing end of the largest pot of the day on this hand. It might seem a bit unnecessary to get stacked with a naked pair here, but at the time he has to decide whether to stay in or not he is getting close to 3-1 on his call, so he can’t really fold at that point. UarePileous would also move in with many draws in this spot, so if Antonius were to fold his kings here he would be very exploitable. Obviously, this time Antonius wished he had save the last of his chips because when the cards were flipped over he was worse than a 9-1 underdog, and with no help on either of the last two streets he saw even more of his chips disappear into his opponents stack.
