Durrrr puts in some marathon sessions

It’s really back to school for Tom Dwan these days, and playing close to 10 000 hands in just over 24 hours is not something we have seen a while from him. First, he lost about $100K to URnotINdanger2 in a $50/$100 PLO match that lasted over 7000 hands. Then, after a break, he won it all back in various other PLO games ending up with a, for him, modest $12K win.

LokoIsBack wins a 4-way preflop all-in hand. $64K pot.

As you can imagine, there were many players who had better results than durrrr on this day, and at the top of the leader board we find the presumed Finn, LokoIsBack, with a very nice $272K win. He won $290K in the $200/$400 PLO CAP game, and with a cap of $16K it means he was winning a lot more than his share of the all-in situations. On this particular hand it might seem that he is way behind, but actually he has exactly 25% equity when the money goes in. I guess that on the days you are running like a house on fire, you should push every marginal situation like LokoIsBack is doing here. The flop and the turn didn’t bring particularly good news for him, but the jack on the river allowed him to make an unlikely scoop of the big pot.

Antonius hits a monster flop to win a $100K pot from Ziigmund.

Patrik Antonius made a short guest appearance and managed to win $52K in just 16 hands. Of course, when playing $500/$1000 PLO it is not much of a swing, and it was really only this hand, the largest one of the day, that decided the outcome of this short encounter. After Ziigmund decided to make a c-bet on the flop, it was kind of difficult for him to get away from his gut-shot draw and overpair. And in fairness, even against Antonius combined straight and set, Ziigmund is ‘only’ a 4-1 underdog, which is very close to the odds he is getting on the call.

Durrrr’s two pairs hold up against URnotIndanger2’s flush draw. $63K pot

This is the largest pot of the match between durrrr and URnotINdanger2, and though it was the latter who went on to win the match, durrrr did get the pleasure of winning this one. It was a huge pot, considering the stakes they were playing, and we don’t see too many 600+ big blind pots these days. Durrrr was a marginal favorite when the money went in, but I must say that if any of the players ever considered folding on this flop, it must have been durrrrr. Of course, top and bottom pair is a very strong hand when playing heads up, but it is much easier for durrrr’s hand to be dominated than URnotINdanger2’s.

The factor that most probably makes durrrr go with his hand, is the potential flush draw on the board. This widens his opponent’s range significantly and probably makes his shove profitable in the long run. It would have been interesting to see how he would have played it if the flop came rainbow. My guess is that he would just have called the raise on the flop and tried to re-evaluate the situation after the turn.
