After a horrible weekend where he dropped over $400K, Gus Hansen got right back on track on track on Monday with a nice $191K win. He turned a $275K weekend loss in the $200/$400 PLO Cap game to a $150K win yesterday. It was also interesting to see Phil Galfond return to the stage for the first time in a while, and getting a cool $74K for his effort.
NEKOTYAN takes down a $54K pot when he rivers a pair of jacks.
Hansen’s variance id something that goes to show how volatile these games can be. The cap might give the appearance of less variance, but when players are more willing to put get their chips in the middle the swings will still be very large. But it is not only in the cap games that the player don’t need a big hand to move all-in, and this hand is proof of that.
Justin Smith was in the lead with his pair of sixes all the way to the river, but when NEKOTYAN spiked the jack on the river he was able to win the largest pot of the day with just a pair of jacks. Obviously both players had good reason to go all-in here, and the hand was basically a coin flip from the flop onwards, but still it is rare to see such a big pot be awarded to a marginal hand like this.
Hansen flops two pairs, turns a full house and rivers quads to win a $49K pot.
Hansen’s two pairs fades a bunch of draws to win a $48K pot.
Phil Galfond turns a flush to win a $47K pot.
