Cole South ended the weekend on a positive note when he took off with $171K of his opponents money yesterday. And like Ziigmund the day before, it was the cap games that vaulted him to the top of the leader board. But he wasn’t the only one who had a good day. Three other players managed to notch up six figure wins.
Superbaldas flops top set and gets Ziigmund to pay him off. $88K pot
Ziigmund’s aggressive game is well known, but on this hand it definitely worked against him. I suspect he didn’t put his opponent on top set here, seeing how Superbaldas didn’t 4-bet preflop. More likely, Ziigmund was hoping that Superbaldas was floating with some kind of a marginal holding and that he could be pushed off it with a big turn bet. Obviously, on this hand Ziigmund miscalculated, and when Supebaldas shoved on the turn, he was left pinning his hopes on a gutshot draw that never materialize.
Cole South rivers a full house and wins an $80K pot from Gus Hansen
A very fortunate pot for Cole South here, and one where it seems he was a bit overly optimistic about his chances on the turn. His call on the flop with an overpair and a gut shot draw is fairly automatic, but the call on the turn I find a bit dubious. Possibly he was hoping for a chance to take the pot away on the river if he didn’t hit his hand. But even if Hansen has been double barreling with nothing, he is likely to fire the last bullet on the river and then South will not be able to make a call. Regardless of the merits of his play, Cole South was rewarded when his 1 in 19 shot came through with the nine of clubs on the river, so I guess all is well that ends well. Gus Hansen might see it differently, though
