Gus Hansen continues his march back towards the black numbers for the year, and yesterday he did so by winning $281K in the $200/$400 and $500/$1000 PLO Cap games. In the latter game he played 231 hands against DrugsOrMe and ended the session with a $183K win. In other news, Patrik Antonius continued his fixed limit match against IhateJuice. In 225 hands he managed to win $113K, so his domination of this duel seems to continue.
Luckexpress10 flops a set, but has to fade a ton of draws to scoop a $132K pot.
A set is obviously a very strong hand in PLO, particularly when playing HU. But it can also be a very vulnerable hand as this pot shows. With his 13 wrap and flush draw, harrington25 was actually a very marginal favorite. That luckexpress10 ended up scooping the pot after running it twice was a one in four shot, so in that regard it was a very lucky hand for him.
This hand shows why small pairs are not worth much when played in multiway pots. If you hit your set and get action you’re best case scenario is often that you are up against a big draw and the worst case is that you are up against a bigger set. To avoid this last situation it is often a good idea to only set-mine with higher pairs when playing against multiple opponents. The margins in PLO are very small, so you need to put yourself in as many good situations as possible.
