Blom is running hotter than the sun
The daily results for yesterday show Vikor "Isildur1" Blom as by far the biggest winner of the day with $420k in winnings, coming mostly against his seemingly constant adversary over the past few days Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies, helped along by a near $100k win vs Gavin "gavz101" Cochrane.
However, a crazy three hour session of HU $100/$200 PLO this morning once more between Isildur and Ilari FIN has almost made the $400k win look insignificant and ended in a landslide victory for the ultra aggressive Swede who destroyed Sahamies, netting a further $726k for his efforts. In less than 24 hours Blom has now won over $1,000,000 - almost exclusively from Sahamies. In fact over the past 48 hours, his profit shows a staggering $1.4 million.
One has to feel slightly for Sahamies who had quite literally only just dug himself out of the $1.4 million hole he found himself in for 2011 at the start of the month, only to run $500k below EV in this mornings session as Blom seemingly couldn't miss a draw, and as his stacks grew (he left one table win over $500k and another well over $400k, with a max $50k buy in) he felt more and more obliged to call Sahamies down light, more often than not hitting the necessary cards to bring home the bacon.
Although all in EV never tells the whole story, it is obvious Blom ran very well this session - although let's not forget that even discounting the $500k Blom ran over EV he still would have won the session by over $200k, suggesting that it is arguable he outplayed his Finnish opponent on the day.
Certainly Bloms detractors will use the luck element to discredit his play just as his fans will use the fact that Blom had already won over $600k in the previous two days to legitimise his talent.
With Blom now up over $1.7 million this year on PokerStars we can only speculate as to what his next move will be. Having worked his way up from $25/$50 through $50/$100 and now mainly $100/$200 will we see a return to the nosebleeds for the opinion dividing Swede? I'm sure there will be plenty of opponents ready to challenge him if so.
