Crazy times as ever for Viktor Blom at the PLO tables
Jeans89 topped yesterdays winners with a $300k score
Ilari bagged a solid win yesterday
It's been a couple of fascinating days at the PokerStars PLO tables and of course, as usual, one man was at the centre of that action - the inimitable Viktor "Isildur1" Blom.
After winning $250k in Sundays action it all seemed to go downhill for the relentless Swede as he seemingly spiraled of control on the stroke of midnight and went into freefall through Monday morning losing over $300k in around 2,000 hands of $100/$200 PLO.
Profiting from Bloms dramatic collapse were Jens "Jeans89" Kyllönen and Ilari "Ilari FIN" Sahamies who topped yesterdays winners lists winning $300k and $253k respectively. Although both profited heavily from the games with including Isildur1 (especially Jeans89) they both also made substantial amounts in six max PLO games against all the top opposition. As a result there were five players yesterday who suffered heavy six figure losses - the top three being patpatman who lost $285k, Phil "MrSweets28" Galfond who lost $259k and Terje "Terken89" Augdal who dropped $170k.
However, despite Isildurs losses yesterday morning outstripped any of those mentioned above he actually ended the day just $62k in the red after a wild ride where he hit a huge upswing, wiping out his $300k losses and going $100k in profit for the day in around 1500 hands before quickly losing $350k over the next 500 hands only to regroup and collapse again and again over the next 1500 hands before finally taking a couple of hours off at around 3.30am server time having battled his way to around a $250k win for todays play and only showing a $62k loss for yesterday.
What is perhaps more interesting than the usual tales of Isildur's wild swings is the way in which his huge (at one point over $600k heater) started when he was at his lowest ebb and seemingly had no more money to play with. He bought in at a couple of $50/$100 tables with just $3k buy ins, managed to double up a couple of times before splitting the table and opening up more with very low buy ins. From these tiny buy ins he rebuilt his roll and in a few short hours had crushed games for over half a million dollars - a thing very few people can do and yet a thing Isildur1 is famous for.
The biggest donators to Isildur1 in this period were 1Il|1Il|1il| who lost $180k to him and Berndsen12 who once again went heads up with Isidur1, this time at $100/$200 PLO and lost $350k to Blom although this match was anything but straightforward. After Blom initially took a huge lead Berndsen12 pretty much closed the gap before Blom flew once more before the match eventually ended. At one point Berndsen tried to get Blom to move up to $200/$400 but Blom'c cryptic reply was that he had to play at the stakes he was at due to a "bet". One can only speculate as to what that bet was...
That match also produced the biggest hands of the past few days, here are the top three;
Isildur1's open ended straight draw and nut flush draw fail to hit as Berndsen12 turned the nut straight - $178k pot
Berndsen12's top two are enough to scoop this $162k pot
With over $100k in the pot preflop this was always going all the way - Isildur turns trips to take the $149k pot
Of course this is not going to be the end of the story as Isildur reappeared just 1.5 hour later, quicky opening six tables of $100/$200 PLO and his boom/bust style is still very much in evidence as he had some initial quick wins but is currently on a $200k + downswing since his recent arrival.
