Phil Ivey having a great World Series of Poker so far.

Phil Ivey leads the 2012 World Series of Poker Player of the Year race after almost half of the 2012 WSOP tournaments have been played down to the winner. Also in the POY top 10 are currently Brian Hastings and Phil Hellmuth.

Ivey has reached already a remarkable three WSOP final tables this year, and earned over $450,000 from the WSOP tournaments he has played so far this year.

Phil Ivey's 2012 WSOP final table appearances:

• Event #15 - $5,000 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo - 7th place for $34,595
• Event #17 - $10,000 PLHE - 2nd place for $275,559
• Event #24 - $5,000 Omaha Hi/Lo - 3rd place for $136,046

Despite the three final table appearances, Ivey must feel somewhat disappointed after coming so close to win his 9th WSOP gold bracelet.

Here is how the WSOP Player of the Year race currently looks like:

1 - Phil Ivey (383.55 points)
2 - Andrew Frankenberger (372.16 points)
3 - John Monnette (310.50 points)
4 - Brian Hastings (303.00 points)
5 - Ashkan Razavi (274.06 points)
6 - Aubin Cazals (251.00 points)
7 - Michael Gathy (250.00 points)
8 - Clifford Goldking (240.00 points)
9 - Phil Hellmuth (240.00 points)
10 - Simon Charette (237.50 points)

Who will take down the 2012 WSOP Player of the Year race? Can Ivey win his 9th WSOP gold bracelet?
