Some good high stakes action at PokerStars during September led to six players taking $500k wins, with Odd_Oddsen leading the way with a total win of $830k for the month.
Oddsen has only really been a regular fixture at the high stakes tables since around July since when he has been piling on the winnings - with his haul in September the Norwegian player has now won over $1.4m since the start of July at PokerStars high stakes tables exclusively playing PLO up to $200/$400.
Although Odd_Oddsen performed well throughout the month his biggest win came between 8th-9th September when he took on multi-tabling "newcomer" FaKeOrReaL and took him for close to $400k in a 6.5 hour heads up classic.
Prior to this heavy defeat however September had been all about FaKeOrReaL as he bludgeoned his way to the top of the September leader board during the first week of the month, winning $484k after putting in 20,000 hands multi-tabling mainly $50/$100 PLO. His weekly figured was especially boosted by a +$354k day on the 7th September - just before he lost it all to Odd_Oddsen the following day.
Also enjoying the first week of September was Chung ho who made over $400k at the FLO8 tables at the expense of Gus "broksi" Hansen who had a terrible week losing a total of $681k on his way to a disastrous -$971k month.
The biggest hand of the week fell to Odd_Oddsen at the $100/$200 PLO tables;
Odd_Oddsen flops top set and is happy to get it in vs azn_ballers3's nut flush and straight draw. The board pairs on the turn to settle this $113.9k pot
Week two saw a reversal of fortunes for FaKeOrReaL who racked up $638k in losses, more than wiping out his previous weeks winnings - over half of which as previously discussed was at the hands of Odd_Oddsen who finished third on the weekly leader board with $444k in profits for the week. The biggest winner of the weke however came in the form of English tournament behemoth Sam "tr1cky7" Trickett who bagged a +$579k week courtesy of two +$250k wins during the week, one at the $200/$400 PLO tables and another at the $100/$200 tables. We also saw a close to half a million win during the second week of September from another English player as NLHE specialist Alex "Kanu7" Millar added $497.8k to his ever burgeoning bankroll mostly due to a huge $377k heads up win against patpatman. In fact, despite winning over $500k in one day during this week, patpatman managed to lose a total of $742k for the week as he fly around the nosebleed PLO and NLHE tables.
It will be of small consolation that patpatman actually took down the biggest pot of the month;
Ilari FIN makes a bold move on the turn as he catches two pair but finds he is crushed by patpatman's flopped set of Queens in this $219k pot
The third week saw the rise of Jens "Jeans89" Kyllönen as he made $473.6k including a $239k win on the 20th of September. At this point it looked as though Jeans89 might run away with the September leader board as by this point he was over $800k for the month. The last week however didn't go so well for the young Finn (although he still ended the month as one of the six "half million dollar men) winning a total of $530k for September.
The third week had its fair share of $200/$400 PLO action also and it was from these sessions that the weeks biggest pot emerged;
Three players get a piece of this flop leading to a big $180.4k pot in which flop leader azn_baller3 has to redraw to a full house to defeat Ilari FIN's turned straight
The third week also saw another attempt by Viktor "Isildur1" Blom to go from zero to hero as he once again built a decent six figure roll from humble beginnings only to crash and burn before the end of one of his elongated sessions. He did a similar thing the previous week and was to do the same again during the last week of the month. I guess he knows that it only takes one of those rushes to hit full pelt and he could win a staggering amount as has in the past. Currently though he just seems to be burying himself even further as through the month he lost $468k.
The final 10 days of the month belonged to 1Il|1Il|1il| or "barcode" who hit three back to back six figure winning days to end the week a $568k winner including a $268k win at PLO on the 25th. The win somewhat restored some balance to barcode's torrid time over the past few months at the tables where he had lost over a million dollars prior to September.
Also faring well during the last week was RaiseOnce (rumoured to be Phil Ivey) who won $411k almost exclusively due to a $372k win on the final day of the month after some big FLO8 sessions. RaiseOnce has been concentrating a lot more on the high stakes limit games this year and seems to be pulling it together as the year reaches its final stages and after suffering some heavy losses is now back to almost even and will surely be looking to put some positive numbers on the board before 2012 is done.
The biggest pot of the final stage of September fell to Sauce123 who had a good final 10 days in general as he racked up a $375k profit between 22nd-30th September;
patpatman was never going to bluff Sauce123 off the second nuts in this $141.3k pot
So, when the four weeks worth of results come together we see a litany of big six figure winners with the three biggest all representing different poker variants. Odd_Oddsen win his $830k at PLO, second placed Chung ho won his $662.5k exclusively playing FLO8 and Kanu7 won his $652k playing NLHE. It's great to see high stakes poker being played in multiple disciplines and certainly keeps it interesting for the railbirds.
As October starts we can only hope the high stakes action continues at PokerStars and by November, with Full Tilt hopefully back up and running we should see even more great action played at the highest level.
