From Saturday through to next Sunday (4th November) PokerStars will host an All Star Showdown featuring eight of the best highstakes No Limit Hold 'Em in the world with the winner taking home $550k.
Each player will put up $100,000 and will engage in a $50/$100 heads up battle with another of the contestants (opponents will be randomly chosen), the four matches will then play simultaneously until one player busts and the other moves on to the next round.
As with the final Superstar Showdown between Ike Haxton and Viktor Blom there is no hand limit with the blinds doubling if the match reaches 3,000 hands and ultimately played to a conclusion.
Haxton will be hoping for a better result than his last showdown when he lost the $1 million winner takes all match against Blom earlier this year as the newly announced member of PokerStars Team Online has confirmed his participation. Also confirmed as Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky, Phil "MrSweets28" Galfond, Alex "Kanu7" Millar, Alexander "Sussie Smith" Roumeliotis and Tobias "KTPOKP" Kuder with the two remaining players as yet unconfirmed.
Haxton said "“I’m excited to start my tenure with Team PokerStars with the chance to win a big title and a lot of money in my favourite form of poker. There are no titles or champions in heads-up games, just winners and losers. This tournament will change that by crowning the first All-Star Showdown champion.”
The matches start Saturday 27th October at 18:00 CET and will continue throughout the week with break days on October 30th and November 1st.
We look forward to the announcement of the final two players - perhaps Isildur1 will take the opportunity to sign out from PokerStars with a bang, or maybe Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu will like the idea of a high profile challenge?
