2012 saw some great action at the high stakes tables of PokerStars, and latterly, of Full Tilt Poker. We had big action in all the major poker variants with million dollar winners at the NLHE, PLO, 2-7 Triple Draw and Omaha Hi Lo tables. In total the year ended with 14 seven figure winners - in the following three-part article we take a look at each of the individual players' profitable year.
14. davin77 - $1,092,887
The second million dollar winner in 2012 from Full Tilt poker, davin77 really came into his own with the huge popularity of the $200/$400 CAP PLO tables at Full Tilt during the last part of 2012. davin77 also won the majority of his seven figure score in December when he won $972k - his biggest day being December 12th when he took home $335k. You can read about his win here
Given the limit imposed in a CAP game it took a four way all in for davin77 to scoop this $58.3k pot as he flops trip Queens
13. Sebastien "Seb86" Sabic - $1,118,348 ($1,726,350 including winnings as Seb86 at PokerStars)
Seb86 is the first million dollar winner on the list to come from the tables of Full Tilt Poker - quite an achievement given that Full Tilt only opened for business during the first week of November. Previously he had also enjoyed six figure success at PokerStars where he ended the year as a $600k winner. Seb86 is another player who specialises in the high stakes limit games, although he prefers action at the 2-7 Triple Draw tables to the FLO8 tables favoured by the other limit pros who made this list.
Seb86 owes pretty much his entire 2012 Full Tilt score to his amazingly consistent form throughout December where he finished as one of the biggest winners each week of 2012's final month.
12. LewisFriend - $1,145,699
The second limit specialist to appear on our list of 2012 million dollar winners is LewisFriend who also exclusively plays at the FLO8 tables. In a similar vein to Chung ho he played in the first few months of the year, winning over $330k between January and March before also disappearing from PokerStars for a few months, returning in August. LewisFriend is another player who has been accused of multi-accounting - this time by fellow limit specialist Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn (see forum thread here). The gist of the accusation seems more than he shares accounts with another player and it would also seem that this player may be Chung ho. However, with no real proof again I shall no longer speculate!
After his return to PokerStars back in July he enjoyed a winning August but a losing September before having a great October where he won over $760k at the FLO8 tables - winning close to half a million dollar during the first week of that month. LewisFriend also had a six figure winning month in November before (just like Chung ho) leaving the tables of PokerStars, probably to play at Full Tilt.
11. Ronny "1-ronnyr3" Kaiser - $1,154,357 ($1,358,879 including winnings as ronnyr37617 at Full Tilt in 2012)
Ronny "1-ronnyr3" Kaiser is one of the most consistent high stakes online winners over the past few years. Last year he was one of the only players to make seven figure scores at both PokerStars and Full Tilt (along with Jens Kyllönen). Yet again this year he has accomplished a +million dollar score at PokerStars at the PLO tables.
A threat in any game he sits, and he plays up to the highest stakes online, usually at the six max tables. Kaiser enjoyed most of his biggest success of the year in March when he won over $400k - with all his profit coming from one stellar day of $100/$200 PLO action which you can read about here. This session also produced Ronny's biggest pot of the year;
long90110 turns the nut flush but is outdrawn on the river as 1-ronnyr3 fills up and cleverly check-raises his opponent to extract maximum value in this $179.6k pot
The next few months were pretty uneventful for Kaiser as his total winnings barely changed between April and the start of August. Between August and the end of the year Ronny was able to add another half a million dollars to winnings, most of which came in November and December where Kaiser enjoyed some decent success including a $200k day in December
