Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Viktor "Isildur1" Blom is still the most exciting high stakes poker star currently playing.
Yesterday he produced the kind of heater for which he is famed, going over $1m in profit for the day, before losing almost all of it in a few short hours.
His day started as he continued to ride his heater from Wednesday, and in the ealry hours beat RookieNFL for just over $200k. After a three hour break, Isildur1 was back at the Triple Draw tables, where he continues to crush souls, and in a two hour session he was able to add a further $500k to his bankroll across two tables, beating Kagome Kagome and Gus Hansen, with Kagome Kagome taking a particularly rough beating, as much of the action took place heads-up.
After finally seeking some rest, Isildur1 was back at the tables for the early evening, where he took a small win from bbvisbadforme at $500/$1000 CAP NLHE, after recovering from an $80k deficit, before once again destroying the opposistion at the 2-7 Triple Draw tables, with FinddaGrind, ragen70, and particularly Gus Hansen on the receiving end of more punishment. Once again Isildur1 made big scores over two tables, adding aothe $273k to his now bulging bankroll.
At one point in the match, Isildur1 found himself up $1.1m for the day. All that was about to change, however, as he moved back to the NLHE tables.
Blom is still a fair way off the top opposition in the NLHE world, having abandoned his first love for PLO and the nosebleed limit games a few years ago, but you certainly can't fault his determination and willingness to take on the best at the highest stakes in order to get back on top.
It may take a little while longer, however, as Alex "IReadYrSoul" Millar handed him an expensive lesson, beating Blom for $612.7k in a 3.5 hour, action packed session. The match also produced all the day's biggest pots. Here are each players biggest pot:
Isildur1 hits a nice river, enabling him to double up vs IReadYrSoul - $257.8k pot
IReadYrSoul emphatically wins this flip, with his AK beating Isildur1's 10 10, first with an Ace on the flop, then with the nut flush on the river - $252.6k pot
Perhaps this would have been as good a time as any to call it quits for the day, still with a health profit. However, that's never been Isildur1's style, and 90 minutes later he was back at 4 tables of $500/$1000 CAP NLHE vs Doug "WCGRider" Polk. Things didn't go to plan, as after a period of break-even play, Polk took the iniative, running slightly above EV in flip situations, ending up with a $223k win. Despite running above EV, Polk was still a worthy winner in their most recent encounter.
So, although Isildur1 is showing a $785k win for yesterday, after his early morning exploits, he is only up $173.9k since Thursday morning.
Aside from Isildur1 and IReadYrSoul, there was another big winner yesterday, as Denoking enjoyed yet another win over SanIker at the $200/$400 NLHE tables. The pair played yesterday morning over 2-3 tables, with SanIker winning $215.9k in just over 2 hours play.
