Bankroll progress report....
Hi all....
There's enough "from zero to a billion" threads already, but fortunately this is for MY benefit, not yours. If you are entertained, i consider that a bonus. I have several leaks in my games, and i intend to fix them through review and feedback. I will post thoughts, hands and graphs here. Exciting right?
--> Here's the scoop, i recently picked up a $25 prepaid visa and a case of beer at the store. My intention was to put $15 on FTP and $10 on Absolute. I chose these sites because they are both Mac/OSX friendly. Because these are both considered "micro deposits", i was fully aware of the risk involved and thought it would be neat to document my progress as i accumulate a healthy bankroll. My FIRST "goal" is to reach $50 on BOTH sites for a combined $100, then i can reevaluate and raise the bar if i desire. Because i am starting with such a small amount, CAUTION is my priority for a while.
I have played 3 sessions since, two 8 hour session right off the bat. The first session was profitable, as i only played $1 9-man SnGs until the very end, where i played a couple HU PLO matches. The second session began well, but i began drinking that case of beer i mentioned. I maintained a fairly solid and profitable game at $1 level, but towards the end of my session as i became increasingly drunk, i switched to PLO HU games from $2-$11, only moving up to chase losses. At one point i had to tell myself "if you get back to even (where i left my BR from $1 games), you have to quit". Well, i managed to break even and went to bed. Getting tired/drunk is generally what causes my emotional crashes that lead to bankroll busting.
Today's the 25th and i am about to continue my session from earlier. I have played only 9 games today and have placed in 7 of them, winning 4. I feel good today, and plan to take advantage of it and play a bit more.
Once $50 is reached the following rules will apply...
- I will play up to 4 tables at once, no more. (sadly 2 on Absolute, my browser crashes if any more)
- I am not allowed to sit with more than 10% of my entire roll at once in a SnG. Example - on a $50 bankroll, i may sit at 4x $1.25, or 2x $2.25
- I am not allowed to sit with more than 5% of my entire roll at once in a MTT. Example - on a $50 roll i may play $1-$2.50 tournaments. NO rebuy events over $1.00
There will be more rules i'm sure, such as when to take a step back down and what i'm allowed to/not to do when i'm drinking/playing.
Player names:
Full Tilt - Sit Donkey Sit Absolute - AdmireMyNuts
CURRENTLY i am at $48 on FTP and $16 on Absolute over 3 sessions. Once i reach $50 on FTP i will focus all my attention on AP until i reach $50 there as well.
Here's a handy chart to explain the variance thus far on FTP....

(hand history here was deleted, too long for opening post, plus standard stuff.)

RE: Bankroll progress report....
Some have asked: I'm a 27 year old male, been playing for about 3 years solid, but taking it more seriously in the last year or so. Have had profitable success online, mostly in low-stakes MTTs, but most of my financial success has come from live B&M small-field MTTs. Semi-retired after last years WSOP, made deep runs in both HE and PLO MTT for combined $178k. Don't ask for my name cause you sure won't get it here. Time to take a break from my usual stress and life, so i'm gonna be lazy for a year or so. I feel like i wanna give up on poker as a job for a while and go in a different direction occupationally. Until then i'm gonna be a bum. That's why i'm here, just goofing around having fun and killing time.
Most of my playbook is self-taught from painful experience, but i have read plenty of books lately and am currently enjoying "Zen and the art of Poker', "The Tao of Poker" and Negreanu's 'Power hold'em Strategy". I find his small-ball approach neat and much like my own lest his wider range.
I don't claim to be great, good, ok, or decent. I am lucky in many ways in my life. I DO NOT want to hear useless feedback unless you have something constructive to add.
I love all games of poker, but i find my most profitable is MTTs and SnGs, as my emotional control being one of my biggest leaks can break my entire roll in 1 sitting in a cash game. It's happened more than once.
Cheers!

RE: Bankroll progress report....
WOW, i haven't had a swing like this since i first started (check graph). I've lost to a lot of weak draws and terrible calldowns already this session, down about 7 buy-ins at one point and focusing on my last table before i take a break and collect myself. If i cash in this on i am at $43 worst case $46 best case.
Hate bumps in the road like this. Feels like such a waste of time.
EDIT: Took 3rd, put money in ahead again with chance to take chiplead. Roll at $43, taking a break. I will two-table the rest of the session tonight and play to $50 or $40, then quit. Things got really swingy.

RE: Bankroll progress report....
I'm currently on one of the biggest downswings ever. Not this account, or this thread, of MY LIFE. No need for specifics, we all know how downswings are....
If i'd have been this unlucky from the get-go i'd already be broke.
I am absolutely disgusted. It is in this situation that i frequently chase losses and go BUST very quickly.
I am seriously confused at this moment to why/how i could lose 10+ buy-ins, but i HAVE to be realistic and understand that it's not all luck, if anything the poor luck is negatively affecting my play causing bad decisions. It is because of this i am stopping at $30 or so BR. I am crushed at the moment, and embarrassed.
I feel gutted. Not only did i just take a huge step in the wrong direction, but psychological effects are damaging too. I am wondering why i even started this thread now.
Tomorrow is a new day and at the very least i have this thread to thank for not being bust at the moment due to playing above my head to chase losses. Keeping this in the back of my mind makes it easier for me to stop, although this session i already chased losses and went past my $40 stop-loss all the way to $30.
I just lost about $16 total, which is 13 losses. Un-fucking believable.
I have had no more than 3 consecutive losses since i began. Very disturbing.
Cya tomorrow to take another shot.

RE: Bankroll progress report....
Finally got to $51, took a day longer than i had hoped. I'm about 4 hours into todays session and am going to now focus on my "Daily Dollar" $10k GTD deep-stacked on FTP. Only cost a buck! Woo!
Man a downswing is depressing. Especially when you just started a challenge such as i have. It really makes you question your own abilities and play. A 20 buy-in downswing is simply ridiculous and unacceptable.
I played a few more 9-man $1 SnGs first today and got drawn out on all 3 in NO time, which just put me in a bad mindset. Just made me feel like i was picking up EXACTLY where i left off yesterday, and that's NO good.
SO, i decided to switch games to give myself a break from the $1 grind and stress. I feel i have a big edge over a majority of the $2 PLO HU crowd, so i opted to give these a shot. I immediately saw a huge change in the way things were going. I was able to easily pick off opponents quickly, and went on quite a little streak. I experienced what i would call a normal amount of variance. Most of my better hands held up against draws when the money went in, some didnt. In the end though i had a dominating PLO session to put me at my goal of $50.
Here's a updated chart...

And some more fun hands....
#1 - Here's a example of what i was seeing during my downswing...

jay0582 (2009-03-27) are you serious? this whole thread is comedy right? well if not no offense, but you play the majority of those hands absolutely horribly... and you are like talkin to yourself in the thread, i only read them because i was bored, but i have a question... why are you posting here about strategy... if you want feedback go to twoplustwo.com.. your are far away from even the understanding of basic winning fundamentals of poker dude... like no lie, pretty dreadful play
Man this hurts my feelings. That was mean, but i thank you for your honesty. I will put "quit poker cause i don't understand it" on the top of my to do list, just above "tell publisher to recall my 'How To Play Poker'" book.
I posted hands for constructive feedback... if you have none, why waste yours and my time?
Elaborate, or don't bother. Your comment seems excessively harsh considering you don't provide any substance.
THIS IS POSTED IN THE "BLOG" SECTION OF THE FORUM - which, is exactly what this is... Go away or be nice.

RE: Bankroll progress report....
I think in the J10 hand you described the flop call was pretty bad. Yes, you are getting 4-1 on your call on the flop but you are drawing to 4 cards to complete your straight, and the number is less if someone has the flush draw. Also, it's likely you will have to hit your card on the turn to continue with the hand since there will almost certainly be action on any turn card (as there was). Your only going to feel great about 3 cards in the deck and if you have to hit the K on the turn specifically that's about 6%. You have the right idea by considering the pot odds involved in your call on the flop but you have to look a bit deeper than that. Getting 4-1 is only good if your hand is better than 4-1 to get there or if you have big implied odds, neither was true in this case. Anyways, just my two cents. Good Luck, hope you take it down
