1st hand of tourny question

I entered into a 50 dollar mtt at foxwoods approx 125 people

Blinds are 25-50 i believe starting with 5k in chips
My first hand i get AcJc from the hi-jack pos and raise to 175
The Button and small blind call
Flop is Kc3s10c

small blind bets 200
I raise to 600
Button moves All in, Small blind also moves All in....

I know i am behind, what would you guys do, easy fold or take a chance for an early triple up with my royal draw

Anyway i said f**k it and called
SB had 33 and Button had 1010... i wiffed and lost.. looked it up i think i was 37%to win

RE: 1st hand of tourny question

i really don't like your reraise out of position. You have 13 outs twice, low blinds I'd prob flat call and then fold to a push, or fold if i miss the turn. Then again, I hate busting out of live tournaments early.

I actually like the raise. Normally you just get just a call to your raise and a check on the turn. So if you miss the turn, you can get a free river to complete the draw. With the reraise allin, you know ur really behind and against a single allin I would fold, but against 2, its just to juicy to tripple there to let it go imo.

RE: 1st hand of tourny question

I dislike the raise too (if you're not willing to call an all-in).

In a freezeout it's all about controlling the pot and getting reads on your opponents early on.
Your raise is so small that no hand is folding either. You only have 25% of catching on the turn, so when you miss 3 out of 4 times and the opponent bets 60% of the pot, you're not getting correct odds to call, then you get in all sorts of trouble chasing a draw; all because you inflated the pot to get an extra 400 in.

IMO flat call the flop then fold to a bet on the turn. If you hit the turn, there's still some chance you are getting paid off by smaller flushes, 3 of a kind, etc.

RE: 1st hand of tourny question

I'm actually shocked that both of their hands were so strong. First few hands of tournaments (even big buy ins) are often ridiculous.

For example, I played a $1k buy in at the 2006 WSOP, (1500 chips to start), the 1st hand, someone raised, and got called, flop was something like 4c 7c Td. Guy #1 bets 200, guy #2 raises to 600, guy #1 reraises all in, guy #2 SNAP CALLS... On the very 1st hand of the tourney.

Guy #1 : Ac Kc, which is ok I guess...
Guy #2 (the guy who raised, and snap called the all in... in a $1000 freezeout...) ...

Ready?

.....

POCKET THREES!!!!!!!!!!!! w00t The AK guy hit a flush on the turn, and doubled up.

So anyway, I would have probably done the same thing in your spot. Either triple up, or go home (assuming that you could easily afford the buy-in, which i'm sure you could).

RE: 1st hand of tourny question

I had a similar situation yesterday. My first hand was AKs. I raised 3xBB, guy reraised me to 10xBB with JJ, I pushed all-in, he called. I hit both aces and kings on the flop, and the turn comes 10, river Q...

I know it happens all the time, but in the first hand...it sucks.
