60$ Turbo, Fifty/50 SNG (double or nothing) Stars

Stars introduced these new Double or nothing SNG's not so long ago and they quite nice to play. They run like 30 min on average. Rules are simple. 10 players, 5 get paid. You get paid your buyin + $ per 100 chips left.

In case of the 60$ (57,25+2,75$) you get pad 57.25 + 1.90 per 100 chips. Everyone starts with 1500 chips en structure is quite fast.

Were sitting on the bubble, 6 left
Blinds are 150-300 with a 40 ante
Seat 1: Player 1 (1744 in chips) (BB)
Seat 2: Player 2 (27 in chips)
Seat 4: Hero (2202 in chips)      (Ah9h)
Seat 5: Player 3 (7172 in chips)
Seat 6: Player 4 (1690 in chips)
Seat 10: Player 5 (2165 in chips) (SB)
So UTG Player 2 has 27 chips which isnt even enough to pay the ante, so hes allin and its up to me with A9 suited. I decide to limp hoping to check it down with big blind or maybe 4 way with SB and give shorty less chance to survive. (whether this is good doesn't really matter)

Now this massive stack instant shoves his 7k+ stack which is a safe stack compared to the other stacks and earns him a lot if he ends up with it. Everyone folds and its up to me.

I can fold and let him battle the shorty allin who has a random hand and is probably behind, or I can call knowing this big stack can shove any 2 (the guy played ok and probably knew he can bully the table with a stack like that.) But by calling I risk ending in 6th earning me nothing if the shorty wins and big stack gets second.

If I fold I have 1862 left which earns me 57,25 + 1.9 x 18.62 = $ 92.63 (if shorty busts and game is over)

If I call and big stack wins I get $ 57.25
If I call and win I get 57.25 + 1.9 x 50.01 = $  152..69
If I call and shorty wins and I loose from Big stack I get nothing

Call or Fold?

There's also times when shortstack wins and you pick up sidepot, but that's not gonna change much in the way of calculations.

Without trying to calculate anything, I'd go for the non-gambling option. Last thing you want is to lose in 6th or lose all your chips and come 5th (meaning you lose vs rake).

You could always put both players on 100% and calculate which is most profitable.

Call! I'm somewhat short of time here so I won't give you all my thoughts but with his stack size compared to the rest of you, he's doing that (massively profitable!) move with a lot of hands and you won't be in bad shape against many of them. Considering the payout structure I don't understand why he would play a monster hand that way and the worst you'll be up against is probably AJ-A10 or 10-10, 9-9. I'm not playing NLHE anymore so I don't know what the kids are up to these days, but my logic screams call...

if the big stack was running good and winning every hand they played then knowing the way stars SnGs work its a fold everytime, even if you have AA here theres a very good chance you will lose to the big stack if they have that run good never lose a hand thing you see some players having in the SnGs on there.

Fold from the start instead! He doesn't even have an ante, and you limp for 300, costing yourself

Let the SB and BB take it down instead...

RE: 60$ Turbo, Fifty/50 SNG (double or nothing) Stars

I think ship or fold is the best option.
In a normal don this is an easy fold of course, in this type of sngo it comes down to math as it does after your call.
Limping is never a good option here because you are either commited or have to fold to any ship but have no fold equity which normally is massive in this spot.
I think the hope to check it down with the bb doesnt make up for that risk.

Lets say you win the whole pot 40% of the time.

+28$

20% you lose the buyin + the amount you would have win if you folded

-18,40$

40% you win the buyin which equals a loss of 35$.

-14$
------------

-4,40$

With these numbers, its slightly -ev to call, but hey, i suck at math so i could be completely wrong Wink

more optimistic:

55% 33$

20% -18,40$

25% - 9$
------------

+5,60$

Could be a +-0 Ev spot after all, but i think its better to fold depending on your tilt factor Wink

Well, you're getting paid no matter what, since if you lose you go out in 5th. You're second in chips but you've less than 10 BB, right?
Certainly a tempting spot to gamble.

sorry, forgot if the shorty wins you get nothing. i'd still call. you're in good shape to at least get your BI back, and if you win you've
almost tripled up. wwdd?
