5/10 - Push or Fold @ 888Poker
Hi,
Don't know really where I'm going with this but has anyone tried the "Push or Fold" tables @ 888 poker?
I play omaha every now and then but for some reason tried the "Push or Fold" tables. The minimum and maximum buy in is 5BB. so for 5/10 it is 50 dollars.
In the beginning its is usually just push but after a while half the table gets up to about 40BB at least.
No brag or anything but I have run pretty hot and won about 6000 dollars this week playing about 20 hours of these tables. Maybe i've run a bit over EV but do you guys think there's any future on those tables and does anybody else play them?
I think the best strategy is to have good knowledge of good starting hands in omaha. when you play 6 max you can wait for a couple of hands if you have about 15-20BB but there are people calling 15BB with like 589K one suit.
What do you guys think are the best strategy for these tables?

RE: 5/10 - Push or Fold @ 888Poker
Hi,
I haven't played at these tables or this variation of Omaha, and even only played a limited number of 100bb+ Omaha hands, but I would expect people to gamble it up pretty big since generally people do it at 100bb+ Omaha imo.
Obviously you need to have a good understanding of starting hand strength and how hands interact as regards to equity (say 2 players go all-in and you try to decide if you should push or fold, you would make a decision depending on how their ranges interact and how that affects your hand's equity). The second biggest thing is probably to have a good grasp on people's calling/folding ranges in different spots. Basically you are looking to get it in with a 5-10% equity edge in most situations and in some situations with even bigger edges. I would expect you can find pretty bad players at these kind of tables that you can exploit big. Obviously I don't have any experience at all playing at these tables, it's just my general feeling.
I think the best strategy is playing pretty nitty and be conscious of how the table and the players at the table play and adjust based on that.

RE: 5/10 - Push or Fold @ 888Poker
in omaha your generally at the mercy of variance for a large percent of your success. this is purely flipping coins. unless you have an incredibly advanced grasp of the value of omaha starting hands, your results are going to swing with the variance, and even if you do i don't think it really matters. i would take your incredibly good run as good fortune. if you are determined to play push or fold going forward i would withdraw a substantial piece of that money so that you don't go into one of those dark tilting holes where all of your money is gone in a couple ours. if you want to keep building your roll, stick with something that has more room for skill. of course, that is unless you suck.

I have never played this " Push or Fold " game but I guess if you understand the format you can win some money thanks to other players mistakes. Either way, this type of game seems to involve more luck than the usual format ( when people play 40bb to 200bb or something like that ) and in my opinion you're on some kind of heater ( not that you're bad, but you must realize that you've won a lot considering how much you played ). Anyhow, looks like you're doing fine so keep it up.
