player swings

i recently browsed highstakes player profiles to notice. berndsen who was up a ton is now down almost a million, and is rarly seen. also mtwdavin was up almost a million is up 300k after a downswing.

then you have people like pokrparty and isildur who are up and down regularly.

then theres phisherman and eireabu whoo are on massive upswings.

are the on rout to a busto downswing aswell?

and is poker a game where you should use an aggressive brm and try to ride a upswing to millions instead of grinding midle stakes? everyone seems to be goin broke eventually

RE: player swings

Losing in poker is easy.Variation of opportunities in poker should be fair. If it isn't then playing is a kind of unfair lottery.
If it is fair then the opportunities are evenly ( 95% of the time) distributed for all players, IF you
play many times.
Example ( simplified )
Probability for getting a pair is 1/17.
EV( for number of pairs) = (number of hands)/17.
If you play 17*5 hands then you get pairs ( 95% of the time). Number of pairs you get is from 1 to 10.
And you don't know which pairs you get.

If you want to get pairs , one of each rank, the you have to play at least: 13*17*5 hands =appr=1100 hands.
Then you can be sure (95% of the time) that you have got from 1 to 10 pairs of each rank.

Getting a pair is not the same as winning a pot.

Winning is about using all opportunities in the game to win the biggest possible amount and avoiding all situations for losing more than a reasonable amount.
It's about taking calculated risks , bankroll management.
To win one must be lucky !!

RE: player swings

The best hand in PLO has a less chance to win than the best hand in Holdem. The way PLO is often played is based on interpretations of the way of betting, raising, reraising.
Meaning: one loses a little in order to not to lose much.

Use of oddscalculator can give an answer. Try it for hands like AAxy against some other good hands in PLO,
respective AA against what ever hand in Holdem.

Put in an other way: to be sure (95% of the time) for getting good chances in PLO one needs
a huge amount of hands, huge amount of opportunities. That means : one has to play a lot of
losing hands in order to play the winning hands.
Question is about how much to lose, respective win.

RE: player swings

dont raise preflop and ur swings in plo are less. it also causes the small and the big blind to play with weak hands vs your good hands out of position.
