My poker journey with you

Hello guys,I am starting a blog to keep me focused and to get some help from the wise people on the forum.
My name is Ellen and I am 23 and have been watching poker for a while and started with play money and then some micro stakes. I did ok and was consistent and made some money.
I have now got a small inheritance and I decided to send $3000 to my Pokerstars account.
What would you recommend as a number of buy ins to keep? I was thinking I will play at .25-.50 (60X buyins) and 2 tables each and possibly play on Zoom.
How would you guys advise to move up?
Any other tips and money management advice.
I play conservatively and do not gamble. TAG I think.
Ok any help would be appreciated and I will update from Tuesday when I have time to start and take account of what help is offered.
Thanking you all in advance.

RE: My poker journey with you

Goddamn y'all are nitty. 60 buy ins, 70 buy ins, playing $10NL? Seriously, you're better off getting a job at Mickey D's rather than play $10NL--you'll earn more money and at least have a little social interaction.

$3000 is a plenty big enough roll to play $100 buy-in 6-max NLHE. That is 30 buy-ins. At low stakes there is a LOT less variance than at higher stakes because people are far less aggressive, betting, 3-betting and check-raising much less. So, the bankroll advice you hear from high stakes players should be taken with a grain of salt at the low stakes.

ALSO, the bigger your bankroll is and the more it will devastate you if you lose it, the more you should protect it and the nittier you should be with it. It doesn't sound like you're playing with your case money here, so you won't be in the poor house even if you burn it.

RE: My poker journey with you

I should mention that my bankroll advice is if you stick to 6-max NLHE. You'll want more buy-ins if you plan on playing PLO or HU $100 max NLHE.

RE: My poker journey with you

Why do you think at the first level dudeSmile? She obviusly ain`t a pro...
So lets talk about 6 max nlhe.
I recomanded 100 buyins for the start to not wory about nothing.
25nlhe and 50 nlhe are the levels where you learn the basics of the game very well wich is soooooooooo important.
She obviously dosen`t need to play 25 and 50 nlhe for more than 100k hands...
Then she obviusly will progress and with time she will develop here own style and here own rulz for banckroll, play style etc.
You can`t expect with a 3000$ BR to make a million in youre first year of playng(there are some exeptions here....Smile ).
And this are the levels where you learn how to poot someone on a range of hands and figuere out different player tipes and how can you exploit there game.
There are people outhere that get stuck at 200nlhe or 400 nlhe just becose they skip a few steps and than they can`t undestand where they came up short.(Master Silviu pokerstars, very good friend with 0Human0 ,atila84,Ruxandescu.)
The man knows all the moves...can`t read a single player so hes kinda of a break even nitSmile.
Personaly when i played 50 nlhe i lost in a single day 15 buyins. And in the vast magiority of the situations i was way ahead when i when`t all in...
If you have 30 buyins .... figuer it out.
I don`t say be a nit a the tables. You obviously need to be agressive and try to get people angry and to get them to think ure a total monkey.
But yea be a nit at youre banckroll.
Just like in life. You need to be agressive in youre moves, and go after it.But don`t be stupid and risk all you worked for in a single move becose all youre hard work will be for nothing.
Even if youre a 99% favorite...there is stil a chance you go out a loser.

RE: My poker journey with you

Thanks for advice so far.I think 30 buyins at $100 is for sure not for me.
I feel the other advices were good and I am inclined to think to play just 25 as I will have 120 BI's and then move to 50 if i can get to $5k and then I would have 100 BI's.
I feel better with cash games not sng's and I also prefer plo so maybe need the higher number of BI's.
Do people have a money goal per day or an amount of hands as I am inclined to think if I win $100 I might stop for the day? I am interested to hear views on this.
From my limited play I also found that at 10 many people were inclined to keep pushing all in too much and that at 25 that may not happen as much as obviously people wont throw as many multiples of 25 away in the same way as 10. Just a thought but I will see.
My deposit will clear on Tuesday and I will start and put up a graph too.
Any thoughts too on Zoom please?
Thanks

RE: My poker journey with you

hello, as i read, you are new to to poker, my advice is to read some basic strategy books to know some basic concepts, such as pot odds, outs, etc.
as you are new, i would suggest to play as less tables as possible at the beginning until you get more confident and more understanding about the game.

its also important to put a stop-loss, so you tell yourself when you will stop playing when a specific loss of your bankroll happened. for example 3 or 5 buyins, or whatever you find adequate.

you also have to have in mind that in poker luck is involved, so many times the best hand won't win.

good luck

RE: My poker journey with you

plo is good 100 bi.People think its huge variane but untill 600 there a lot a lot a fishes...i mean real fishes.Avoid playng the regs just play nit against them.
Zoom never played...so can`t try to help you there.
No there is no win amount where you stop. There are number of hands or time you what to play.
You set a goal of number of hand or time of play like 1000 hands this sesion or from 14:00 top 18:00.
But i recomend if you lose more than 5-10 buyns to quit even if you don`t meet tht goal and just go do whatever. And don`t think about it.
After that when you feel good just open youre hand hostory and analyse you game where you lost and why.
Than take a nother brake and after that play again.

' ............to get some help from the wise people on the forum'.

unfortunately there are no wise people in this forum. trust me, go to 2+2, and don't look back. this is a site for railing, not poker discussion; all you'll get here are opinions without experience.
