I recently, two weeks ago, actually, deposited $50 on America's Cardroom after almost complete online abstinence since the FTP shutdown. Since then, I have run my roll up to about $1200 playing almost entirely .25 .5 PLO. I want to take a shot at the bigger games becuz I will open up a table at 1/2 and just see all sorts of horrid play taking place. Unfortunately, AC is a small site, and the .5 $1 tables are almost never running, so I'd have to make the jump to 1/2. I'm looking at making it to about 2k before seriously taking a shot there. So far, I haven't had a single losing day; I've lost maybe $100 or so on my worst day, but that was only after I was up a considerable amount more. Any thoughts on how big the roll should be before taking a shot?

I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'taking a shot'. If you're going to give it a go one or two buy ins, then I'd say 2K is safe... you won't lose too high a percentage of your bank roll. If you mean seriously give it a go, I'd say closer to 4 or 5K. At least, that's what I'd do. That way you have some leeway if you're losing etc, and it won't crush your soul if you break.
Plus, PLO has more swings than a playground... so I'd say, be wary! But give it a go. Grinding is alright, but taking shots... that's what makes this game so fun.

Yeah, I'm eager to take like a one buy-in shot, just to see how it goes. If I lose, I have no problem grinding .25 .5, even though it does get a little tedious. Fortunately, I've been on the right side of variance, although getting all the money in as a favorite 80% of the time has something to do with it, I'm sure...

id say stay grindin 25/50c for a while cause you may come to find out that your gonna be on the bad end of varience and wont be able to win weather your 1% dog or a 99% favorite

??
Do you mean you were up $300 and then lost $100 back on the same day?
either way, GL...
If you're able to limit yourself to 1 buy-in (be honest with yourself) you could take a shot now. It;s 1/12th of your roll at 1/2 if you are playing a short stack. If it goes wrong, shut it down. Remember to take auto-reload off though

OK. well go for it I say.
Bankrolls aren't just what you have in an online account on any given day... it's a mix of that plus disposable income. If your aim was to get to ~$2000 so you could cash out and buy a nice TV or whatever then you need to be more strict. You've spun this up from nothing. Cashing out $x wasn't your aim. You deserve a shot. Take it.

Good luck with taking a shot.
If you do loose a buy in evaluate why you lost it. Also in my experience this is around the level you may notice a change in play from the almost robotic check call check call then hit so il bet the pot poker you may be use to(although i may be wrong). People will play there draws more aggresive and will be willing to make moves to try win pots rather than giving up which you may or may not be use to at micro.
Be good to follow see how you get on.

Right now they don't fight for pots on paired boards; if they call a paired board they have trips 100%. Their hand ranges are generally face up on every street, so I can bluff a lot of turns and rivers and move them off their hands pretty easily. So far, I've rarely had to even think about a particular move or play I make. I think it will be pretty easy to determine who the good players are at 1/2, becuz a few of the .25 .5 players play at 1/2 also, but then there are the 1/2 players I see playing at 2/4 and beyond. Those are the players I will generally stay away from at first and stick to playing against the ppl I know
