| well, i am new to omaha. i have only lost money playing omaha or hold-em. anyway. i have been playing tonight and have a question. is it wise to go all in after the flop with a highflush and openended straight draw? the reason i ask is i lost literally every pot i went all in on. i thought it was the right play because i have 17 outs, more or less. also, is it a good idea to raise preflop? i have had some success raiseing preflop but i have also lost a lot. i am trying to figure out why i am only losing.

| All in with 17 outs is fine. You have just been unlucky. If u run pokertracker u could also download the poker EV program (http://pokerevsoftware.com/). It's a good measure of how lucky you have been in all in situations. All in with a good draw is often fine, but u should never auto-allin like so many omaha players do. It's often wise to think a little, sometimes it's better to play a draw quite passively.

| Raising preflop is ok but it's difficult if you don't have much experience. For a beginner it's much better to limp, just try to play some more hands in good position.

| You even sound like a losing player. Yes I got it in with 48 outs but I still lost. If you have 17 outs and your opponent has no redraw than you're a big favourite. Variance is a bitch (in Omaha more than Hold em) but you will start winning these pots soon enough. Off course you should raise with big hands ( A K K Q, 5 6 7 8 etc) but never UTG. Then you just limp and call or if you can get more than 40% of your stack in preflop reraise.

Make sure you run Poker Tracker Omaha if you are serious about learning the game. That way you can always track hands that you weren't sure about, and check equities during the hand, which is very hand and important to learn.
What limits are u playing? If it's very low, you'll find pf raising can be a little pointless as everybody just call. This is fine if it fits with your style and you are comfortable playing for big pots aggressively and pushing others around, but not so good if you're passive-ish.
It sounds soft, but try to be very tight out of position. Playing medium strength hands from the blinds etc can be very hard.
Hope this helps in some way!

I always try to find the player who plays Texas NL on the omaha tables. For example people who don't realize that there AAxx is beated when the flop comes 4567, these players are usually very easy to beat

Draw to the nuts as often as possible. If you are playing for a flush it should be nuts you are aiming for. The same applies to straights as well. Otherwise you will end up losing a lot of money to players who only ever draw to the nuts in the long term.
There are no shortcuts to play five cards stud in a winning way
