SLAKTARN
Unknown men tricked slaktarn Sweden's perhaps hottest player right now - slaktarn, was before the EPT in Barcelona in September approached by a man on msn which issued to be one of the American magazine Card Player writers. He was very interested in doing an exclusive interview with the Swedish star and the only American newspaper, they would have an interview with Sweden's new big players.
A few calls later decided slaktarn to go along with the deal, and also went on to sign a contract that was sent via msn, files slaktarn could not open.
As thanks for slaktarn showed up at this exclusive interview reporter offered to send him a new laptop. A curious gesture - but the computer came as promised and slaktarn had it delivered home by the post office. A few weeks later still nothing had happened, the reporter had not returned, an interview was never, and slaktarn that already thought that everything seemed weird, now understood that something was wrong.
We at Poker Magazine reporter approached and asked if he contacted slaktarn and why they failed to complete the interview. The reporter replied that he did not know who slaktarn was, that he has not contacted him and that he suspected that any use of his name in other contexts.
- It was a foam thing that happened. I looked up the name of the guy resorted to, and it was one of Card Player writers. I thought no more about it. But when the computer arrived and they continued to not come back to me so I felt that something was not true. I never used the computer. But I feel very unpleasant that it sent the files to my other computer files that I could not open, "said slaktarn.
Exactly what that was sent to slaktarns computer is not yet investigated, but that an attempted fraud has taken place is obvious. Slaktarn have been in this situation not decided on whether he should go further and to police the event.

RE: SLAKTARN
" and also went on to sign a contract that was sent via msn, files slaktarn could not open." As a software vulnerability researcher and reverse engineer, I can say this sounds alot like a targeted attack on slacktarn [1] . Please note that most software still contains alot of UNKNOWN (0day) vulnerabilities for which antivirus and firewall offer no protection AT ALL. If you happen to play high stakes poker you might become a target for hackers. Similar attacks happen EVERY DAY against government agencies and major corporations. The best you can do is use a separate computer to only play poker, have a firewall on it which blocks inbound/outbound connections. If you're really paranoia (you should) you may want to boot a readonly virtual machine on it and separate the computer from your local network. I don't know to what extent poker sites offer encrypted connections but they should. [1] An attempt to exploit a memory corruption flaw (e.g. buffer overflow) in for example ms word may result in behaviour like this: ms word crashes but malicious software may have been installed on your computer. Regards, Thomas

RE: SLAKTARN
it's very possible that on this sent computer there's installed some remote desktop control program which is configured and allows to take control from anywhere on this sent computer (if it's connected to internet, one thing - you've to know ip adress from computer you want to take control over when you configure this program, but it's easy to track down ip adress) and some keylogger. if slaktarn would use this computer and log in his fulltilt account and if his password is not saved and he types his password manually everytime when he logs in, it's very possible in next day he would found some missing money. keyloggers has the capability to record every keystroke you make and after hacker can figure out from those thousands of words you've typed when used computer what is your, for example - full tilt poker password, if he knows your screename. for example - on your computer is installed keylogger, you browse web, chat with friends and every keystroke is recorded let's say in some .txt file on your hard drive, after while hacker can check this file and find out what your password is... it's very possible that large part of poker players don't save their passwords, but type them manually for safety when log-in in their poker accounts, if it's possible that someone else could use his computer... that's what I think, cuz it smells very fishy

RE: SLAKTARN
This smells so much like a scam it's not even funny. poker players should be aware of the vulnerable situation they are in because of - the big amounts of money that are transferred in online poker. - the unresponsiveness of law enforcement in most areas (how much effort do you think they'll put into your story? ) - the ease with which money can be stolen ( malicious people don't even have to transfer the money to their accounts, someone peeking at your hole cards is enough info for them so you would _give_ them all of your money eventually) Also, you don't need some generic crap keylogger and wait until the password is typed in. You can just fetch the password from the ftp process memory, sniff it, grab it from whatever configuration file it's stored in (if unencrypted, even then, passwords can be decrypted given enough resources). I'm not going into more technical details, but the vast majority of computer users have no idea how vulnerable they are. Antivirus software only protects against known/generic threats, not targeted, zero-day attacks.
