One of the online poker professionals who turn around huge sums of money at Full Tilt’s nosebleed tables, Phil Galfond is an American poker professional born in 1985 in North Potomac, Maryland. He is also one of Tom Dwan’s friends. A puzzling thing about Galfond was his exclusion from Tom Dwan’s $1 million challenge, which the New Jersey Wonderkid issued to the entire professional poker world, with his lone exception. Experts have since concluded that Dwan just didn’t want to end up battling him and possibly taking money from a friend.
The highlight of Phil Galfond’s tournament career is the WSOP bracelet he’s secured in 2008, in the $5,000 PL Omaha with Rebuys event, where he pocketed $817,781, getting the better of Adam Hourani heads-up. That wasn’t his only WSOP success though. He landed in the money no fewer than 6 times in various events. He’s also scored a cash in a WPT event once.
Known online as OMGClayAiken, Galfond plays on the $200/$400 levels and above at Full Tilt poker. His favorite games are the NL Holdem and PL Omaha ones. After having spent some time analyzing the possibility, Phil Galfond launched an instructional poker site in 2009, called BlueFirePoker.com. Galfond is the one responsible for providing the instructional videos and for hiring other instructors. His associates handle the other aspects of the operation.
Phil Galfond’s all time tournament winnings are said to be around the $1 million mark, although it’s fairly certain that his cash game winnings are far in excess of that since he won more than $7 million last year on Full Tilt Poker.
