Tom Dwan is one of the most hyped poker professionals. Much of the hype surrounding him stems from the $1 million Durrrr challenge he’d issued to the professional poker community about a year ago, and from the series of challenge matches he’s played against Finnish pro Patrik Antonius since. Even though the infrequent nature of challenge match-ups have pretty much doused the interest surrounding the said match-up since, Dwan is continuously stealing poker news headlines through his online cash game antics.
Known online as durrrr, Dwan cannot currently show outstandingly good live results yet. He doesn’t have a WSOP title (though he does have 2 money finishes), nor a WPT one (he did make a WPT final table though and had 2 money finishes). He once cashed in an EPT event as well.
His rise to poker stardom is as classic a rags to riches story as it gets. He started playing poker at the age of 17 (in 2004) by making a single $50 deposit. He first built his bankroll up through Sit’n Gos, but he moved on to cash games to capitalize on the more instant profit there. He proved to be successful there as well, and he managed to work his way up through the low and medium stakes to the $500/$1,000 level at Full Tilt Poker where he now plays.
According to him, he has never ever reached the bottom of the barrel since playing online. Known for his wildly loose and aggressive style, Dwan has been involved in some of the largest pots ever played in online poker. He often drops fabulous sums of money within a few short hands, but he wins big at least as often too.
