Alex Foxen takes down WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $1,694,995

Alex Foxen confirmed his world class status last night by taking down the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $1,694,995, breaking through the $15million career earnings milestone in the process…

The $10k buy-in at the Bellagio in Vegas attracted 606 unique entries and 429 rebuys, producing a prizepool of $10,039,500 with the top two guaranteed $1million paydays.

Foxen came into the final day’s play second in chips of the six contenders, Danny Park leading the way, with previous WPT champs Jonathan Jaffe and Seth Davies two of the better-known challengers. Ireland’s Toby Joyce and Californian pro Peter Neff rounded out a tough final table.

With Neff surviving a couple of early all-ins, it would be Jonathan Jaffe exiting first, losing a race to Alex Foxen and taking $355,125 for his 6th place finish.

It was then Park’s turn to survive a couple of nervy hands, but it didn’t prevent him eventually falling in 5th when Toby Joyce rivered a queen to outpair Park’s pocket nines.

Park, the only rec at the table, said of his final table run: “My boss doesn’t know I made the final table yet, but he’ll probably find out next week. Depending on how well I do here, it’s going to open a lot of options for me. We’ll see how it goes.”

His $465,780 cash has opened plenty of options for the logistics company worker.

Neff was next to hit the rail, outgunned by Seth Davies but pocketing $617,480 for an excellent week’s work, and by this time Foxen had amassed a massive stack of chips.

It wasn’t quite all over, but although Joyce fought back, for Davies there would be no reprieve, eventually falling in an ace over ace showdown where Foxen’s queen kicker played.

That left Joyce to attempt to halt Foxen’s steamroller, but it wasn’t to be, the Irishman reluctantly calling a turn shove from Foxen in a bloated pot only to get the bad news and there would be no river save.
