Big Sunday Win for Joseph Cheong as HighStakes Dominates Sunday Grind

The Sunday grind went off without a hitch yesterday after last weekend’s technical glitches on many poker rooms, and the HighStakes Big Sunday Series was a welcome addition to the various schedules, WSOP bracelet winner Joseph Cheong among the big winners…

By: Andrew Burnett

We’ll kick off with that victory, the €530 buy-in Big Sunday High boasting a €20k guarantee and attracting 30 entries – the top 6 in the money.

Some familiar names from previous Big Sundays were running deep, everyone looking to bag the three victories that would land a €10k tournament ticket bonus.

Timex89 fought his way to 5th, a first and second in other events an excellent showing and the closest anyone got to the big bonus.

Blanka69 has previous for beasting the Big Sunday, this time finishing 3rd, and that left JosephCheong to face ThieF83 for the title.

Cheong lifted his first WSOP Gold last summer, and yesterday he proved he had that champion’s edge, taking the win and €8600, the runner-up spot good for €4800.

With the €100k series guarantee smashed by €40k, Bryan 'BOOMSwitch' Paris was among the 1400 unique entries throughout the day, and he found success in the €109 buy-in Big Bounty MID event.

With €100 on every player’s head, Paris added €200 to his €1204 win, with fish2019 tripling his 4th place cash with an excellent €600 of headhunting.

We’ll take a look at just one more of the Big Sunday tournaments, the €850 buy-in SHR Re-entry, and the 20 players were chasing a €15k prizefund.

Four would find themselves in the money, pokernuts and ThieF83 grabbing the first two paid spots, leaving timex89 and can23 playing for the trophy and a share of €12k.

The latter prevailed, landing the €7360 top prize to round off an exciting day’s action on the HighStakes tournament tables.

There was plenty of action over on ACR as well, the US-facing site also smashing guarantees as the first Sunday of 2020 kicked in with a vengeance.

Mozart528 pocketed more than $32k for taking down the $125k GTD, topping a field of 881 in which 99 players cashed.

The $200k GTD saw an extra $53k in the kitty, 253 entries for the $1050 buy-in tournament and 45 players making the money.

Site pro Tom 'HolyCannuli' Cannuli battled his way to an $18k 4th place finish, with ChristinePoker grabbing 3rd for a $24k Sunday payday. That left bethechange to show heads-up prowess to overcome A23456789 for the title win, and a whopping $54,395 cash.

We’ll round off this weekend’s action with a couple of partypoker results, starting with the High Roller Sunday Big Game, 114 entries ponying up $5200 apiece and chasing a $570,000 prizepool – again way above the guarantee.

DasIstMirWurst can buy plenty of sausage with his 3rd spot finish, a $71,250 cash, leaving Lone1 and patience to battle for the Big Game crown.

It was patience who emerged triumphant, a massive $139,650 payout, with Lone1 just a few bucks short of a six-figure cash.

The $1050 buy-in High Roller Sunday Masters saw some big names running deep, Paul 'topdollarman' Newey making the money and partypoker Team pro Kristen 'Krissyb24' Bicknell grabbing 7th place for $5845.

Another partypoker Team pro, Finnish highstakes crusher Joni 'JJouhki' Jouhkimainen, made it to 3rd for close to $20k, and that left BuddyRW to face off with Player_1234 for the trophy.

It was close but no cigar for Buddy, eventually settling for the $26,553 runner-up cheque, meaning Player_1234 took the win and $36,957.

That’s it for another week of the big Sunday grind, but we’ll be back next Monday with our highstakes online roundup. In the meantime, good luck at the tables!
