The Dusk Till Dawn cardroom in Nottingham is playing host to the opening partypoker festival of the year, and the $25k SHR attracted 37 entries, producing a prize pool of $897,250.

Among those who survived to day 2, or bought in  to the second day’s play were Kristen Bicknell, Alex Foxen, and Mikita Badziakouski, but with only five spots paid and a host of highstakes crushers it would prove to be a tough day for many.

Spain’s Adrian Mateos fell in 10th place, bubbling the final table, and his exit was followed by Rainer Kempe, Yair 'The Wolf' Bitoun and Kings Casino boss Leon Tsoukernik.

Tsoukernik’s exit came at the hands of Englishman Luke Reeves and a painful river…

Reeves: A♥ Q♣

That left the remaining six on the money bubble, and it was start-of-day chip leader Reeves who would leave empty-handed after a rash blind-on-blind battle with Kurganov – shoving with pocket fours only to find himself facing queens.

Steve O’Dwyer had won the Super High Roller last time out in Nottingham, but this time he had to settle for 5th place and $75k, and when Preben Stokkan and Ben Heath joined him on the rail, it was Kurganov against Kahle Burns playing heads-up for the title.

Burns fought back from a chip deficit and the duo traded blows for a while, but just when they had agreed on an amusing little ‘mandatory check’ rule that allowed them to force the opponent to check a street on demand, the denouement appeared.

Kurganov: 4♣ 4♥

That bigger Broadway straight gave Burns the title and $350,000, with Kurganov’s runner-up finish good for $222,250.

Final results:

1 Kahle Burns $350,000
2 Igor Kurganov $222,250
3 Ben Heath $150,000
4 Preben Stokkan $100,000
5 Steve O'Dwyer $75,000
