Zarko Mandic wins 2020 Borgata Winter Poker Open Deepstack Opener for $342,967

New Yorker Zarko Mandic took down the Borgata Winter Poker Open Deepstack last night, his $342,967 score coming after topping a final table in which he bluffed their brains out

By: Andrew Burnett

Mandic only started playing poker seriously a year ago, having previously played at college, and was one of 4375 entries to the $600 buy-in opening event of the annual Borgata winter series.

The 31 players who returned for the third and final day’s play was soon reduced to just nine, 'Emanuele Manny' Gugliuzza bubbling the final table and assuring those left of a $27,500 payout.

It proved to be a tour de force from Mandic after that, aggressive play disposing of six of the next seven players to hit the rail, twice being dealt pocket queens and taking out three players with them.

When Montreal’s Constantinos Psallidas fell in third, only Ricardo Eyzaguirre from Florida stood between Mandic and a remarkable victory, his previous cashes totalling just over $15k.

Continued aggression paid off, his opponent irked by Mandic’s non-stop shoving, the eventual winner explaining to reporters afterwards: "I just played aggressively, played all-in and that's why he (Ricardo Eyzaguirre) was getting angry at me”.

A heads-up deal had already decided the prizefund distribution, with Mandic taking the title and trophy.
