Brian Altman Enters WPT Record Books With $482,636 Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event Win

Brian Altman made history by taking down the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open for the second time – the first person to win the same WPT Main Event twice – scooping $482,636 and a $15,000 seat in the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions.

Altman had previously won the 2015 edition, a $723,008 cash that remains his biggest-ever in almost ten years as a tournament pro, and yesterday he topped an 843-entry field in the $3500 buy-in event to add his second.

With the $2,697,600 prizepool having already handed out money to 100 players, the final table of six resumed for a 5th and final day’s play, Altman and Jake Dollinger holding 70% of the chips in play.

Peter Walsworth was first to fall when his bluff-shove was called by Dollinger holding pocket nines, and Nadeem Hirani followed him to the rail when his big slick was outflopped by Altman.

Nadya Magnus’ deep run was also ended by Altman, this time holding the big slick himself…

…the Russian-born, Illinois resident pro adding $171,642 to her $650k+ lifetime cashes.

Dollinger, who would receive penalties twice for folding out of turn, eventually disposed of Chanracy Khun in 3rd, the Canadian pocketing $230,086 for his fine showing.

Heads-up saw Dollinger’s 2:1 chip lead swiftly overturned, Altman gradually grinding the Florida pro down and finishing things off with a huge hand…

Altman told WPT reporters afterwards: “This is incredibly special. It’s amazing to be the first person to win the same WPT event twice, and kind of cement myself in history with this event.”
