Wai Leong Chan Wins partypoker MILLIONS $25k Short Deck Event #3 For $457,500

Tough Line Up

The final table was as star-studded as you might expect for an event with such a buy-in. Three of the players were also riding a wave of confidence after making final tables this week in Sochi already.

Aaron Van Blarcum was the first player heading back to his hotel room after another success in short deck events. The American clearly feels at home in the new, exciting format.

Newly crowned Industry Person of the Year, Paul Phua, was no on a roll and steamrollering the table, eventually knocking out half of the final table.

Two all-in confrontations with Phua sent home the next two guys. Danny Tang and Ivan Leow headed home after the poker gods offered no help.

Down to the last three, the rail might have been hoping for a dramatic and exciting finish but it was down to two in less than five minutes.

Thai Ha, from Vietnam, thought his luck was in after hitting a flush, only to find out that Chan had an even bigger one. The $213,500 for third place might have softened the blow though.

The two Malaysians remaining now found themselves deep and a protracted battle started to take place.

After some cagey play the stacks were shallow enough that we were bound to see an end soon. Chan got the chips in with KT and Phua must have been delighted to see AJ. Unfortunately for Phua a king-high board ended his charge and Chan was champion.
