Online Casino Revenue To Grow During Covid 19 Crisis

Many industries will sadly be devastated by the coronavirus pandemic spreading across the globe, but for online casinos and poker-rooms the effects are likely to be the opposite – a huge upturn as people are restricted to their homes.

For those who have a stake in both land-based and online portals, there will probably be a balance struck between loss and gain, but for purely virtual entertainment firms it looks likely to be a boom time.

Las Vegas, one of the biggest land-based casino hubs in the world, has just been shutdown to all but essential services, and that means online fun and games are the only outlet for gamblers and games enthusiasts, according to website online.casino.

Without wishing to make a cash-cow out of a global crisis, the reality is that self-isolation, or perhaps still-to-come enforced isolation, means that professionals and amateurs alike will be looking to the internet.

Moving online

Several big poker events have already been transferred online, WSOP Circuit events now played on WSOP.com and the Irish Poker Open, for example, turning to partypoker to run their series.

Several US states have already seen huge uptake of new player signups, and there have been calls for other states to relax their ban on internet gambling and poker during the coronavirus crisis.

For the wider casino enthusiast, providers will be ramping up their offerings to ensure there is plenty of incentive for the mass of new players.

Live slots over the internet

Atlantic City’s HardRockCasino were quick off the mark, becoming the first online gaming provider in the world to offer live slots over the internet.

The new live feature allows players to ‘control real, physical slot machines’, according to Kresimir Spajic, Senior VP of Online Gaming and Sports Betting at Hard Rock International.

The machines are physically located at Hard Rock Atlantic City, and New Jersey players can access them using PC, Mac, tablet or mobile device.

With online gaming among the most-innovative industries in the world, it likely won’t be long before other companies devise and introduce new and exciting games.

With no-one knowing when the corona virus will be under control, it could be a long time before we return to our normal lives – in the meantime, there are most certainly alternatives to ensure we don’t go stir crazy.
