Phil Galfond Fills The PLO Challenge Gap With Mini-Match Victory

Not content with launching what might be the greatest comeback in poker history, Phil Galfond has started a series of Mini-Galfond challenges to fill the hours while ViniVidi1993 licks his wounds.

The RIO boss ought to have been continuing his battle with the anonymous crusher this week, having pulled himself back from almost €1million in the red to a single big winning session from level.

Instead, his opponent decided to take a few days off, and Galfond – on a well-deserved high - decided he couldn’t get enough of the highstakes PLO action…

Stepping up to the potentially very expensive plate was AmSoGood, playing out of Canada and a veteran of sorts who has previously faced Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom and other legends of the online game.

The 800 hand ‘quickie’ PLO match at $200/$400 against Galfond on his PokerStars MrSweets28 account turned out to be a typical 4-card rollercoaster, AmSoGood taking some big hits early on, such as this $40k pot, replayable on PokeIt here.

As Galfond tweeted, however, it wasn’t all one-way traffic, his opponent fighting back and the match see-sawing to the end, with Galfond booking a smallish win.

AmSoGood, who goes under the nickname Lemay002 on Twitter and the 2plus2 forum rather kindly posted a graph, and called the $200k swings in the mini-match “very standard”.

While the majority of poker fans stuck at home were delighted to have some highstakes action to follow and sweat, there will always be the haters and Galfond, as ever, dealt with it politely.

No word yet on when VeniVidi will be back at the tables, but in the meantime we’ll be following Galfond’s mini-matches and bringing you the best of the action.
