Joni 'JJouhki' Jouhkimainen in the Money as Sunday Grind Sees Huge Online Series Everywhere

It was another busy day on the Sunday grind and the highstakes MTT players were out in force across the board, ACRs OSS XL and partypokers Powerfest still going strong through the coronavirus lockdown and PokerStars kicking off two new series.

We’ll start the ball rolling with the $5200 buy-in Powerfest SHR Final, the $1million guarantee blown out of the water when 281 entries appeared, making a $1.3million+ prizepool and $260k+ up top.

There was a brace of Team partypoker legends running deep, with Joni 'JJouhki' Jouhkimainen and Anatoly 'NL_Profit' Filatov mixing it with some of the anonymous reg crushers, online MTT beast PayAndPlay among them.

The Finnish legend fell in 13th place for a $17,485 cash, but that wasn’t his only payout of the day as we will see. Filatov’s eventual 7th spot was worth just over $36k.

PayAndPlay went even better, landing a podium finish, third place worth a monster $132,781, leaving BoldPilot and nomeansyes to battle for the title.

Nomeansyes won out, landing the whopping $261,618 top prize, leaving BoldPilot to pick up one of the biggest runner-up prizes this year of $189,311.

Earlier on Sunday night, or Monday morning rather with a 3.30am finish, 62 entries fought it out in the $5200 PLO 6-max Powerfest event, with nine set to cash from the $310k prizepool.

Swiss PLO expert Fernando 'JNandez_87' Habegger scraped into the money in 9th for $11,272 and one of last week’s big winners, Carnotaurus, pocketed the same prize for 7th.

Joni 'JJouhki' Jouhkimainen was in the mix yet again, this time finishing 5th and adding $20k or so to his Sunday bankroll, but the PLO title and 6-figure top prize came down to heads-up between Plarize and CoolScreenName.

The latter, CoolScreenName, emerged victorious, a bumper $107,231 payday while his opponent bagged $69,750 for 2nd place.

Over on ACR, the leading US-facing pokerroom, the Online Super Series XL saw the Sunday $300k Warm Up almost double its guarantee. With 578 entries at $109 apiece, the prizepool stood at $578k with a $60k+ first prize to chase.

As with every other online site, the live poker lockdown has seen players flock to the virtual tables, so again there were a score of new screennames to contend with.

One we’ve seen many times, though, is jsmith84 and yesterday’s deep run to 10th place was worth $2890, just short of the final table. The top five were all looking at 100x ROIs and NiFropNiFrop, HFNeon and CubaRado all made it, but heads-up came down to Jensen91 and Tbone2000.

Tbone prevailed, topping the 5780-entry field to lift $63,580 with his rival taking a very decent $39,835 in the runner-up spot.

The $1050 buy-in Sunday $200k GTD saw another huge uptick in entries, 361 to be exact, and that meant almost $70k up top.

Roostt and LordJarumen came close, taking $29k and $39k for finishing 4th and 3rd respectively.

Heads-up was a fight for an extra $17k over the $52k already secured and it went to wsopboy93 who defeated sonder for the win and the $69,853 cash.

PokerStars launched their Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) and Turbo Series this week, and the latter saw Russian Mamoht_T lift a massive prize on day one.

The $215 buy-in PKO was the very first event on the schedule and it came down to a 2-way battle for top honours, Mamoht_T and Czech PS reg LIKE A G6 heads-up.

The top two prizes were shared, meaning both had bagged $81k, but while the Czech player pocketed $8k in Bounties, his Russian counterpart pulled in a phenomenal $52k in head-hunting bonuses.

The PokerStars blog has all the up-to-date info, and here’s a selection of the day 1 winners…

01 – $215 PKO MAMOHT_T $81,420 + $52,088
02 – $109 soydelmillo $56,776
