Bujtas and Bicknell Bag Big Paydays on the Sunday Grind

The highstakes crew were well and truly in among the action yesterday, and not just in the Poker Masters Online series – Kristen Bicknell, Laszlo Bujtas and Matt Kirk all cashing on the Sunday grind…

By: Andrew Burnett

partypoker pro Bicknell came close with a 3rd spot midweek in the Poker Masters, and her fine form continued yesterday with two big cashes on two different sites, although a win still eluded the Canadian star.

The Big Game on partypoker had a $1million guarantee yet again, and saw the first of her deep runs, the 275 entries at $5200 producing close to $1.3million in prizes.

Krissyb24 as she is known on the red diamond site grabbed a $35,446 chunk of that with a 7th place run, fellow online crusher MadGenius111 one spot ahead for a $50k cash.

The win went to IIIIIIIIII (that should be 10 of them!) who lifted $256,502 after seeing off another partypoker highstakes beast, Achtungdiekurve, who pocketed $185,609 as runner-up.

We’ll get back to Bicknell in a moment, but another well-known highstakes face – or name at least – appeared at the deep end of the PLO 6-max in the partypoker Powerfest series.

‘Aussie’ Matt Kirk, or Matthew_a _kirk to give him his partypoker moniker, is better known for highstakes cash game jinks, including his infamous battle with Leon Tsoukernik.

Yesterday’s online foray netted Kirk an 8th place worth $11,636, with Carnotaurus’ recent heater continuing with a victory worth $110,690.

Over on AmericasCardRoom, there were two near-misses for the elite players, the first coming in the ACR HighFive Series $600k event.

1006 entries at $1k apiece saw the guarantee shattered, and by the time the tournament reached heads-up play, Laszlo 'omaha4rollz' Bujtas was looking to add to his Poker Masters PLO win of a few days ago.

Unfortunately for the Hungarian maestro, a certain Smellyycat came between him and the double, Bujtas having to settle for the $130,780 runner-up cheque – his feline opponent bagging $181,080 for the win.

The $2650 buy-in Super High Roller on ACR didn’t have a guarantee, but the 58 entries produced a prizepool of $145,000 to chase, with Bicknell back in action.

Reaching heads-up against sorentino14, the Canadian couldn’t quite close it out, the $29,000 cash making it a very profitable weekend and a big win is likely not far off. Sorentino14 took $42,050 to go along with the title.

PokerStars Turbo Series’ final day also gave the players a chance to bag some big scores, and Bujtas took full advantage of that with an epic victory in the 8-max High Roller.

With a final table that wouldn’t look out of place in any big series, Sergi Reixach, Joao Simao, Ivan Luca, Sam Greenwood and Mike Watson all took big paydays.

It was Talal 'raidalot' Shakerchi who posed the heads-up challenge for Bujtas, though, but this time the Hungarian beast closed it out to lift the $188,460 first prize.

The Main Event of the Turbo Series also ran yesterday, and 2133 entries ensured the $2million guarantee was easily met, some 305 players cashing.

A trio of Russians made the final table, with two Brazilians there as well, but the heads-up match saw Romania’s all-time winningest live pro, Alex 'steakaddict' Papazian, facing the UK’s Alwaysfolding99.

Papazian had to settle for 2nd and the $226,824 that went with it, with Alwaysfolding99 scooping the monster $318,201 winner’s pot.
