Loeliger wins Poker Masters Online Main Event for $1.1million but Kolonias Wears the Purple Jacket

The Poker Masters Online Championship came to a dramatic conclusion on partypoker last night, Alexandros Kolonias grabbing the final event victory to lift the Purple Jacket after Linus Loeliger had scooped the Main Event for $1,097,250.

We’ll start at the beginning, the final day of the 30-tournament high roller series featuring the $50k buy-in Poker Masters Main Event.

With 77 entries, it almost doubled the $2million guarantee partypoker had put up, 10 paid spots with the min.cash a huge $154,000.

Most of the world’s top high roller specialists were there, but they weren’t having an easy time of things, Jason Koon falling to this early cooler…

Sam Trickett made it to the final two tables but fell short of the money in 13th, leaderboard contenders Andras Nemeth and Jorryt van Hoof also missing out, with Koon’s conqueror Karim Khayat busting out on the bubble.

The final table was rich in more ways than one, Kahle Burns, David Peters, Ole Schemion and Steve O’Dwyer all chasing one of the biggest online paydays of the year.

They would all come up short, however, and when Christopher Kruk hit the rail in 3rd for $519,750, it meant that Linus Loeliger and Giuseppe Iadisernia were heads-up for the title.

The Venezuelan who now calls Florida home survived one all-in scare, spiking a flush on the river, but his Swiss opponent would not be denied…

The biggest single cash of the series put Loeliger right into the mix for the overall title, but he was 11 points short of Russia’s Artur Martirosyan and meanwhile Kolonias was running very deep in the $10k final event running alongside the ME.

Kolonias needed a win or runner-up finish to leapfrog his way to the Purple Jacket, and when Mark Demirjan fell in 3rd it was secured, Kolonias finishing things off with a heads-up win over England’s Jason McConnon

“It feels amazing, I really wanted to win this. It means a lot to me winning the Purple Jacket,” Kolonias told reporters shortly after pocketing the $50k bonus that went with the coveted award.

He added: “I am very proud of this win because I think I played the best poker I have ever played and the competition was really tough. The Purple Jacket is an important title and it feels about the same as winning the WSOP Europe Main Event last year, but that time I had some tears when I won, I was more emotional."
