Galfond Extends Lead to More Than €400k with €113k Day 4 PLO Challenge Win

Four days and over €400,000 down is the bad news for ActionFreak after another heavy losing day at the Galfond PLO Challenge tables, the anonymous online pro stuck another €113,377 after Fridays battle.

The only good news for Galfond’s opponent is that it wasn’t quite as bad as the previous day’s €310,594 loss, but he now finds himself faced with the same challenge that Galfond encountered in his opening match against VeniVidi1993.

That 25k hands match-up saw the RunItOnce boss climb out of a €900k hole, eventually turning the tables to win the €100k sidebet in a thrilling finish.

ActionFreak stands to lose a €150k sidebet if he is unable to overcome his early deficit, with the duo almost 20% of the way through the scheduled 15k hands.

Friday’s play saw the players exchanging pots early on, but a nice rivered boat put Galfond into a lead that he would build to sizeable proportions in the latter third of the session…

Galfond: K♠ 9♦ 7♦ 2♣
ActionFreak: K♥ K♣ Q♣ 2♠
Flop: 5♣ 9♣ 8♣
Turn: 7♣
River: 9♠

♥ ♠ ♣ ♦

By the time they called it quits after 665 hands, a so-far rampant Galfond had pocketed €113,377 and extended his lead beyond the €400k mark.

Here are the day-by-day breakdowns of the Galfond - ActionFreak match so far:

Day Hands Session winner Amount €
1 145           AF   11,162
2 1017         PG   3,632
3 844           PG   310,594
4 665           PG   113,377
Total 2671         PG   416,441

Not content with forging into big leads against both Action Freak and Bill Perkins, a mini-match against Jungleman Dan Cates has been squeezed into the schedule.

The duo have still to work out the finer details of their Challenge match proper, but next week’s preview will see bragging rights and perhaps a psychological edge go to the winner.
