ActionFreak Rebounds with Two Big Wins Against Galfond in Highstakes PLO Challenge

The mark of a good professional is bouncebackability, and ActionFreak proved that this week by hitting back with two big session wins against Phil Galfond in their PLO Challenge match…

By: Andrew Burnett

Having found himself in a €400k+ hole after just 4 days’ play in their €150/€300 PLO battle, the anonymous challenger had the weekend off to mull things over.

The short break seems to have done the trick, and Monday’s play witnessed some of the biggest pots so far in any of the PLO Challenge matches.

The first 6-figure pot saw all the chips go in on the turn and Galfond needed a river saver against ActionFreak’s flopped straight.

ActionFreak: 5♠ 9♠ 7♠ 4♦
Galfond: J♦ 10♦ 10♠ 7♥
Flop: 10♥ 6♣ 8♠
Turn: 5♦
River: Q♣

When that failed to materialise, a pot of €115,947 was shipped to Action, who looked to be heading for a crushing session.

Galfond fought back, though, and with not a little luck he kept the deficit to under €100k for the session.

Back the following day for more of the same, and a bad beat river was one of the lowlights of another tough session for Galfond…

The end result of day 6 was another €75k for ActionFreak, pulling his overall deficit back to just under €250k, with 4k of the 15k hands played.

The players will have today off – or rather ActionFreak will – because Galfond will take on the mighty Jungleman, Dan Cates, in a special 750 hand session.

We’ll bring you a roundup of the best of the action from these highstakes masters tomorrow.
