Galfond Opens Up Huge Lead with €165k Session Win in PLO Challenge Against ActionFreak

Just when it looked as though ActionFreak was about to get inot his stride against Phil Galfond, the RunItOnce boss landed a 1-2 blow totalling €190k to re-open a €400k plus lead in their PLO Challenge match.

The 15k hands PLO battle at stakes of €150/€300 had seen the anonymous online pro pull himself back from the brink in days 5 and 6, putting a €160k dent in Galfond’s early lead.

ActionFreak could feel ok about the swingy €27k loss on day 7 over 746 hands, but yesterday’s day 8 session was a nightmare, losing a couple of huge pots on the river in quick succession despite getting his money in good.

♦ ♣ ♠ ♥

Galfond: J♦ 8♣ 6♣ 5♥
ActionFreak: Q♦ Q♣ 9♦ 7♣
Flop: 9♥ 7♠ 3♦
Turn: 2♦
River: 6♥

That was a €113K pot and too many similar hands went Galfond’s way for ActionFreak to even get close, the pair playing 944 hands and Galfond winning €165,093.

With 5775 hands of the 15,000 already completed, Galfond now has a €434,293 lead over his rival, with an even-money €150,000 sidebet also on the line.

It has been a remarkable last few weeks for Galfond, overcoming a massive €900k deficit to win his match vs VeniVidi1993, then opening up a €90k lead against Bill Perkins, and slotting in a mini-match victory worth almost €87k against Daniel Jungleman Cates just a few days ago.
