WPT World Online Championships Coming to partypoker this Summer

The World Poker Tour has partnered with partypoker to run the WPT World Online Poker Championships this summer. Running from July 1st to August 9th, 15 championship events will make this series the biggest guaranteed online tournament series in the history of partypoker.

The showpiece event will be the $10,300 buy-in Season XVIII WPT World Championship Online starting on August 1st.

Bigger and Better

Online poker is doing well during the COVID-19 lockdown, and if that momentum is kept up through to the summer we can expect more major series such as the WPT World Online Poker Championships to be created.

Tom Waters, partypoker Managing Director, said:

“With the live poker schedule likely to be empty over the traditionally hectic summer months, we have been working on plans for a huge online festival to provide an alternative for players that would normally migrate to Vegas.”

The previous Powerfest festivals have broken all the records for partypoker with a couple coming in at $60 million guaranteed. Does this mean we can expect more than $70 million this time?

partypoker key decision maker Rob Yong has already been busy doing all he can to whip up interest amongst players who normally buy in for more modest amounts.

To start he offered 50 of his Twitter followers a free $109 satellite ticket just for replying. One of them expressed such delight as he has never played a tournament of that value that Yong told him he would give him free entry to one of the mini MTT events in the series.

“Never played $109 MTT, you seem like you would love to - tell you want - email @E_Branners(see email at top) & I will give you entry to one of the Mini MTT events myself personally for cheering me up.“

Yet again partypoker is running smaller events to make their festival all-inclusive. They understand that not everybody can get involved in the big ones and always provide cheaper options.

This is a fantastic tie up between two of the biggest names in the industry. Tom Waters added:

“I’m delighted that we have been able to partner with WPT to revive the WPT World Championships and bring the series online for the first time.”

Yong reminisces that the WPT World Championships, held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, was a favourite series of both him and the legendary Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot. If this all goes well we might even see a permanent online version held every year.
